Hi all,
My DNS-323 has served me faithfully for many years now. I run torrents on it using Transmission, and it's my general filedump area.
Apart from a few hiccups, it's worked great. However, it is getting somewhat old and I'm playing with the idea of replacing it with a new machine (and keeping the DNS-323 for secondary backups, etc.)
What I need in a new machine is:
At least two drive bays,
RAID 1,
Linux engine,
ability to run torrents (preferably via Transmission),
USB 3.0 for external drives
1 gig ethernet port,
decent media (movies) streaming over the network (my TV has an ethernet port so I can see network shared drives on it)
and of course, low cost.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Have you looked at the DNS-325?

That looks nice, but it doesn't seem to bring anything new to the table that the 323 doesn't already have, at least as far as I can tell.
Decent price, though. My local retailer has it for $150.

It's significantly faster cpu wise and significant upgrade in available flash and memory in general: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas- … e-reviewed

It's been awhile but I thought I would update this post...
I ended up getting a Synology DS412+. A bit more than what I had budgeted, but I'm very happy with it. Basic specs are:
205.68 MB/sec Reading, 182.66 MB/sec Writing
2 LAN with Failover and Link Aggregation Support
Features SuperSpeed USB 3.0
CPU Passive Cooling Technology & System Fan Redundancy
Hot-swappable Hard Drive Design
Windows® AD and ACL Support
VMware® / Citrix® / Microsoft® Hyper-V® Compliance
Running on Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM)
Plus there's a small but decent selection of free apps that you can download, including a good torrent client with RSS support, client backups, FTP server, etc.
I'm running four 3TB drives in the Synology equivalent of RAID5.
I'm keeping my DNS-323 as a secondary file server for now.

I have been using the DNS 345 for a few months now. Not as good reviews and performance as Synology but similar to the 323 and 325. I have funplug 0.7 installed. I looked at the Synology as well but decided to stick with the familiar and take the hit some on performance.
