Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I would appreciate it if some can post a link to dl file from  http://kylek.is-a-geek.org:31337/files/ … oabi-1.txz .  For some reason I have not been successful in dl'ing from KyleK link (actually I never have been successful).

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Is it just me, or is Transmission becoming a bit heavy?

Older versions had less features but they used less resources.  The 323 struggles to keep up,  Transmission hogs all resources and my Samba performance is terrible if Transmission is running.
This wasn't the case back 1.4x days.
Of course downgraded isn't possible due to tracker restrictions.  Oh well, I guess I need a faster NAS.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Transmission 1.40 was released about 5 years ago. Back then, it didn't have DHT, blocklists, PEX, LPD, or UTP. All these new BitTorrent features take their toll on performance.
The DNS-323 is way too underpowered for today's needs. Heck, it was underpowered when it came onto the market. That's why I switched to the DNS-325 a while ago. No more performance problems since then. (I'm actually considering a switch to the Zyxel NSA-325 smile

You should upgrade as well.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I'm having trouble with a fresh install on a DNS-323 Firmware 1.10

curl-7.18.1.tgz and Transmission-2.76-1.tgz unpacked and installed fine.
curl-7.21.4-arm-1.txz, Transmission-2.76-arm-1.txz, curl-7.24.0-oarm-1.txz, and Transmission-2.76-oabi-1.txz all generate the error

Telnet wrote:

/mnt/HD_a2 # funpkg -i curl-7.21.4-arm-1.txz
tar: invalid gzip magic
FATAL: curl-7.21.4-arm-1.txz: Failed to unpack package

I tried redownloading the files.  Same result.

I am able to connect to Transmission via GUI in web browser.  I added a couple BT files but I receive the error "Could not connect to tracker" for all Tiers.  I'm not sure if the problems are related.   I've spent hours trying to solve the latter problem but realized the first problem may be the culprit.

Thanks!

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Don't use arm packages on the DNS-323.
If you have installed ffp-0.5, use packages ending in .tgz.
If you have installed ffp-0.7-oabi, use oabi packages.

Also, maybe the tar tool is outdated, check if there's a newer package.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Thanks KyleK!  That explains it.  I have fun_plug 0.5 installed so tgz files are all I need.

Now to figure out why Transmission does not connect.  I think it is related to my port forwarding.  My DNS-323 is connecting through two routers and my port must not be forwarded correctly.  This issue is out of scope for this thread so I won’t bother you with it.  Thanks again KyleK!

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

It is entirely likely that the cause is the missing Curl package since it is a key component. Fix that and test before messing with anything else.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I believe the curl package is installed properly.  I issued these commands and they were successful...

$ funpkg -i curl-7.18.1.tgz
$ funpkg -i Transmission-2.76-1.tgz

It wasn't until I tried to unpack the txz files for fun_plug 0.7 that I encountered the "invalid gzip magic" error I mentioned.

Is there a way to verify that curl unpacked correctly?

I just tried to install curl again and received the message "Skipping curl-7.18.1.tgz (altready installed)".  I'll keep experimenting.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hey guys,

I have Transmission running on my NSA320 (thanks to KyleK) and I was wondering, can I set it up to use a VPN connection when downloading?
If the answer is yes, how? (you just knew there was a catch right?)

I don't mind if all the traffic going outside (WAN) goes through the VPN as all I do on the box is Transmission.
As long as all the internal traffic (LAN) does not. Of course.

Looking forward to hear if it is possible.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

KyleK and FunFiler, Thanks for your help.  I solve the problem this evening by using ffp 0.7 instead of ffp 0.5.  I have 2 DNS-323 boxes so I tried a fresh installing using ffp 0.7 on my second box and Transmisison works perfectly.  Here are the steps I took...

DNS-323 with Firmware 1.10
> Install fun_plug ffp-0.7-oabi
> (reboot)
> Install uClibc-0.9.30.3-oarm-1.txz
> Install curl-7.24.0-oarm-1.txz
> Install Transmission-2.76-oabi-1.txz
> Start Tranmission
> Stop Tranmission
> Edit settings.json file for incomplete dir, download dir, whitelist, and port
> Start Tranmission
> Access via gui
> Works great!

Thank you!

"I suggest that owners of the older NASes (DNS-323, CH3SNAS), stay with ffp-0.5 for now."

is that still true?

/ffp/bin/transmission-daemon: can't resolve symbol 'posix_fadvise64'

and the daemon don't start.

No, that's not correct anymore. Owners of the older devices (DNS-323, CH3SNAS) should use ffp-0.7-oabi and the respective packages.
(Unfortunately, some packagers still name their packages <name>-oarm.txz even though the package is actually oabi. Thus be careful where you get the packages from.

Hi

1. Where can i see my ffp version? 0.5 0.7 and arm or oabi? (as i understand it DNS-323 needs oabi when running 0.7, but I dont know if I am at 0.7 or 0.5?)

2. Why should DNS-323 owners upgrade from ffp 0.5 to 0.7oabi?
My current transmission 2.60 works ok - a bit slow and sometimes it hangs but I guess that could be due to only having 10% disk space left?
I think I have ffp 0.5 since I never upgraded ffp since my first install of transmission version 2.11 and back then I guess ffp 0.7 wasnt avaiable or?

Sorry about the n00b questions and thanks for the last reply regarding the log file smile

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

If you never actively upgraded to ffp-0.7, then you're still using ffp-0.5.
Which is fine for the DNS-323, it's an old device.
ffp-0.7 brings for you some updated core libraries, but nothing that would improve performance or men usage. I suggest you stay with 0.5 until you decide to buy a more recent NAS (if you ever need one).

Hallo KyleK!

I'm a happy user (a newbie of course) of DNS-320L . I'm considering using of fun-plug v.0.7. I only have one problem (and a request)... One of privet trackers i'm using accepts Transmission v2.42 (highest Version they accept). I can't prepare (compile) this application. Could you be so kind and help me? I'll be grateful!

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hi all,

Found this guide form Google & another site to get Transmission installed on my DLink 320. Now everything seems to have gone great so far except my install for transmission hangs on:

DHT Attempting bootstrap from dht.transmissionbt.com (tr-dht.c:247)

I have tried reinstalling and it always hangs on the same line. Now initially I just CTRL-C and carried on but then the transmission web page allowed me to log in once and never again hence the reason for the reinstall. Can anyone help me in getting this sorted out? I found this thread on your board: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6701 but I dont really understand how to fix my issue...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Oh and the web page I followed to here is this one: http://klseet.com/index.php/d-link-dns-320-nas/173

*edit*

When the NAS reboots I get this message re-occurring in the transmission-daemon.log file:

tr_crypto error:24064064:random number generator:SSLEAY_RAND_BYTES:PRNG not seeded (crypto.c:113)

What does that mean and how do I solve it?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hi All

New to this forum. I just got an old DNS-321 from a friend, and I really want to use it for torrents download.
I did some reading, and installed ffp 0.7 OARM/OABI and all required packages, as Suoivex listed.
My problem is that when I try to install packages they all install ok but the last line is always :

"funpkg: can't load library 'libarchive.so.12'"

I get this when I try to install transmission :

root@dlink-15AE93:/mnt/HD_a2# funpkg -i Transmission-2.76-oabi-1.txz

any idea what am I missing ?

(I have some unix knwoledge so I 'speak the laguage' smile)

I've looked at http://kylek.is-a-geek.org:31337/files/ffp/0.5/ but there is no such version - could you share with me with this file ?

cheers

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Sorry, but I'm not able to compile such an old version of Transmission anymore (I upgraded my NAS).
You can compile it yourself though, fonz provides all the necessary packages to compile code directly on the device.

On the other hand, you should ask your tracker admins why no newer versions of transmission are allowed. 2.42 is almost 2 years old.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hi KyleK thx for quick reply, could you give me some tip, or manual how can I compile this client by myself ?
I've tried to talk with trakcker admins but they refuse to allow new versions I don't know why.

To be honest I expect that someone will have this old version on his HDD and share with me

cheers

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Make sure your NAS is properly configured, primarily for DNS and Gateway. From a prompt, try and ping a website by name.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I've noticed transmission crashes for me constantly whenever I add any of the Ubuntu torrents- other torrents work fine.
Is this reproducable by anyone else ?  I'm running FFP 0.7 oabi ...

I can't find any log details as to why- so posting here to see if anyone else has found the same issue.
Transmission on my mac downloads them fine.
