Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Owncloud 3 on DNS-323

Hi all,

Let me begin by saying that I'm not knowledgeable about linux/computer tweaks so apologies for the probable sillyness of my questions.

I'm trying to install owncloud 3 on my DNS-323. I could not make things work with fun_plug 0.7 (issues with php and sqlite, probably due to me being confused with package installation), so I turned to chroot debian. After struggling for a while, I could make everything work, except that it seems the kernel on the dns-323 prevents one from upgrading to squeeze, which limits the available version of php to 5.2, which in turns prevents owncloud from working correctly (it needs php 5.3 for calendar syncing, which is what I'm most interested in).

In a nutshell, I'd like to have php 5.3+sqlite+apache or lighttpd working on the machine, so that I could install owncloud. It seems that one way to do it would be to run debian natively (if I understood correctly it would then be possible to upgrade to squeeze); however my dns-323 says "revision C1' and it seems from information gleaned on the web that it is currently not possible to run debian natively for this version of the dns-323.

Would anybody have some advice? If at all possible I'd like to avoid flashing the machine, as I'm not confident I would not brick it (also, I'd have to format the hard drives and that would be a pain); if however some among you run native debian on a dns-323 rev C1 I'd be glad to know as I might try that if there is no other possibility. I'd also be interested in any calendar syncing application that runs on debian with php 5.2 (I don't want to use google calendar or similar since I'd prefer avoiding givng Google any more information than I currently do, so I want the information to be stored locallly but still be accessible from outside).

Thanks a lot to those who took the time to read this, looking forward to hearing from you...
Cheers,
Djams

Re: Owncloud 3 on DNS-323

Do some reading on the alt-f firmware. Google "alt-f debian".  You can post questions like the one above on the alt-f discussion forum.

Re: Owncloud 3 on DNS-323

DNS-343: FW 1.05
php (ffp-0.7): 5.4.4
MySQL (ffp-0.7): 5.1.61
ownCloud: 4.0.2

2 days and all is working on DNS-343 (and QNAP TS-559ProII).

There were 2 problems:
1. to turn on the gb module: (ldd gd.so -> libjpeg.so.62 => ln -snf /ffp/lib/libjpeg.so.8.3.0 /ffp/lib/libjpeg.so.62)
2. synchronize the path of mysql.sock (unified path: /ffp/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock)

Now all things work

Re: Owncloud 3 on DNS-323

Hey Stranger,

so you are saying that it is possible to make it working on the DNS-323 + funplug ?
i don't want to move to debian or alt firmware.

thanks for your confirmation

Re: Owncloud 3 on DNS-323

Hello community,
first of all a big thank you for the given knowledge here and of course to the author(s) of alt-f and components.
i thought that someone could be interested - and i searched a lot for this information - that i finally got my dns-323 (fw1.10 [edit:rev c1 board]) to work with flashed alt-f 01.RC2 and owncloud 4.0.4 today.
disc config is 2 x samsung 2TB in raid 1 with ext4 fs. lan connection shows 1gb and performance is ok (relatively of course, due to the known hw restrictions)
the installation was, in the end, more or less straightforward:
1. alt-f flashing by using it as firmware from dlink 1.10 firmware
2. probably not helpful for all: backed up data from original ext2 raid 1 and formatted disks with ext4 filesystem
>>loong fsck run ;-)
3. setup raid 1 in alt-f disk>raid (had to add the second disk to raid manually)
4. added a 2gb usb stick - took 2 nas reboots to work ;-) - and configure user (setup>user) and their data to be stored at (of course an option)
5. install lighttpd and configure + set path to a rw mount (services>network)
5a: installed openssh and stunnel (packages>alt-f), disabled telnet (services>network>inetd>configure)
6. installed shipped owncloud 3.0.2 package (packages>alt-f)
7. accessed lighttpd/owncloud page by http://yourip:8080/owncloud
8. set user+password
9. ln -s "yourdatastorepath" /mnt/.../htdocs/owncloud/data - to have owncloud using your stored data because upload of huge amounts via webdav is more than boring ;-)
10. download owncloud 4.0.4 package from owncloud
11. untar and copy to owncloud folder (without data and config folder)
12. add needed lighttpd pdo components (services>network>lighttpd>configure)
13. restarted lighttpd
14. change owner/access rights of owncloud data folder to 0770 for user lighttpd and network group because it doesn´t allow login otherwise
voila ,-)
forgive me if i forgot a detail or two but overall this should work as it did here.
one point: i have ffp 0.5 via alt-f installed so i am wondering if i should update to 0.7 for any reason but unsure if this could damage my working setup?!
again big thanks to all of you - hope i could help or motivate someone !
comments or questions are appreciated ;-)
ys, alex.
