Windows required to do initial setup of DNS-323?

Is windows required to set up a DNS-323 (as in new out of the box), or can someone w/only Linux or a Mac also install/set it up?

Re: Windows required to do initial setup of DNS-323?

It's quite some time ago, but I think I booted windows when I first started the DNS. Then ran the EasySearch tool - useless, didn't find anything. I think, I finally booted Linux, did a network scan to find out the DNS's IP address, and did the web-based setup. So in the end Windows wasn't very useful and I think it works without.

Re: Windows required to do initial setup of DNS-323?

Windows is not necessary.

Even though I used Windows, the process that I used can be done on a linux platform, or anything else that has a browser and supports CIFS/SMB, just as easily.

Here's what I did.

Install a single disk, plug in the network cable and the power cable and turned it on - after the blue light stopped flashing I checked my DHCP server (W2K3) to see what address it had leased, and put that into my browser, logged into the web interface and formatted the drive and set the LAN settings, after which I could see the drive in my network places.

I have never run EasySearch or Memeo - in fact I don't think I've ever taken that CD out of it's sleeve.

As far as I have understood it is required to run EasySearch if you want to change the default locale of the DNS. Which might be needed if you use anything other than the English alphabet in your filenames.

After reading this I decided to take a look at EasySearch - I do see a button for language - so this is an excellent point, being a native Anglophone, this is something I would never have noticed - it is definitely not included in the web management pages.

However, this "language" button does not work, get huge problem with ÅÖÄ on the FTP web page.
It can not handle the chinese language even it has the selection.
