Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

newbie: problems chroot debian etch

I have downloaded etch off h++phmm/dns323.kood.org/howto:chroot_debian and followed the instructions, but I cannot get debian working. I used the fun_plug ok and able to telnet in, chroot and update system and all that jazz but after i create linuxrc and fun_plug and reboot it does not allow me to use the chroot system. No ssh, nfs or other access.

can someone tell me what's happening?

Re: newbie: problems chroot debian etch

Have you tried to run manually linuxrc in the chrooted environment? This is the first thing to do, and check what runs and doesn't, what is installed and what is not.. (for example, SSH must be installed...). Only after that, you can reboot and test the whole thing. Basically, you should run linuxrc with "set -x", and see what happens. You can post the trace here.

Re: newbie: problems chroot debian etch

yeah I put the linuxrc file in etch/ but I didn't honestly think of testing the file after chrootin'.
after doing so I found that nearly all of the services were failing at startup

sh-3.1# ./linuxrc
Starting system log daemon: syslogdstart-stop-daemon: nothing in /proc - not mounted? (Success)
.
Starting kernel log daemon: klogdstart-stop-daemon: nothing in /proc - not mounted? (Success)
.
./linuxrc: line 14: /etc/init.d/devfsd: No such file or directory
/sbin/MAKEDEV: warning: can't read /proc/devices
./linuxrc: line 25: /etc/init.d/portmap: No such file or directory
./linuxrc: line 26: /etc/init.d/nfs-common: No such file or directory
./linuxrc: line 27: /etc/init.d/nfs-user-server: No such file or directory
./linuxrc: line 30: /etc/init.d/exim4: No such file or directory
./linuxrc: line 33: /etc/init.d/atd: No such file or directory
Starting periodic command scheduler: crond/usr/sbin/cron: can't lock /var/run/crond.pid, otherpid may be 1517: Resource temporarily unavailable
failed!
./linuxrc: line 37: /etc/init.d/inetd: No such file or directory
Usage: /etc/init.d/rmnologin start|stop
Usage: stop-bootlogd {start|stop|restart|force-reload}

I will have to start finding the files manually and entering them myself or some apt-get for missing software
Thanks,
will post later if not working
