Lost ability to write anything on HDD

Hello!

Something happened when I was copying files from Vol_1 to Vol_2 and and I cannot write to a second HDD no more. After I used dmesg command it is explained:

Code:

sdb: Current: sense key=0x3
    ASC=0x0 ASCQ=0x0
Info fld=0xa2fce10
end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 170905104
EXT3-fs error (device sdb2): read_block_bitmap: Cannot read block bitmap - block_group = 644, block_bitmap = 21102592
Aborting journal on device sdb2.
ext3_abort called.
EXT3-fs error (device sdb2): ext3_journal_start_sb: Detected aborted journal
Remounting filesystem read-only
EXT3-fs error (device sdb2) in ext3_prepare_write: IO failure
__journal_remove_journal_head: freeing b_committed_data
__journal_remove_journal_head: freeing b_committed_data
__journal_remove_journal_head: freeing b_committed_data
__journal_remove_journal_head: freeing b_committed_data
__journal_remove_journal_head: freeing b_committed_data
__journal_remove_journal_head: freeing b_committed_data

Can someone explain me what happened to Vol_2 (sdb) and how to fix it to make it read/write again?

That's almost for sure a hardware error. Have a look at the smart data of that disk.

It seems to be OK.

I investigated problem further and found out tha the journal is probably corrupted. It was suggested that I should: unmount drive, remove journal from filesystem, use e2fsck to remove journal and scan drive, lastly recreate journal using tune2fs. That's the tricky part becouse the drive is flagged as needs_revocery and the journal could'nt be deleted (even when I force delete in e2fck it won't do it). I try to change flag using debugfs but the program fails. I'm stuck.

Re: Lost ability to write anything on HDD

How to mount (or remount) disk as ext2 after NAS started, or how to configure to mount disk as ext2 when device is booting. How the DNS-323 manage that. I have Funplug 0.5 installed with SSH access but I don't know where to look for config files.

I know only configure by fstab but my /etc/fstab looks like this:

Code:

proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/ram0 / minix defaults 1 1
/dev/mtdblock0 /sys/mtd1 minix defaults 0 0
/image.cfs /sys/crfs squashfs loop 0 0

so I think is not done by that in that case.

The disk I'm talking about is Vol_2 so not funplug or other process is accessing it after boot (except samba).

Re: Lost ability to write anything on HDD

If you can unmount it, I guess you can remount it explicitely specifying the file system

Code:

mount -t ext2 <device> <mountpoint>
