Hi i try to back up some ISO files of dvd now i get a error that they is no space when i have more then 240 gig free. I am using windows 2003. firmware upgraded too 1.03
I am now trying putting the file on a normal xp home and then move it to the DNS-323.

on the xp machine it does work. small files of less then 50 mb work fine.

There used to be problems with files of certain sizes from W2K3 - see the wiki or search the site for more details. As far as I know that issue was resolved with 1.03.
When using 1.02 or earlier I would get that insufficient space message with files over 2GB, but having upgraded to 1.03 I no longer get the error, I can put a 3.2 GB DVD ISO without any trouble now.

Same response - check the wiki for details, search the forum for a work around.
What I will say about your "issue" - is that I have never experienced a problem copying files of any size from XP regardless of firmware version - Server 2003 - yes, upgrading to 1.3 fixed it; XP - no.
There was some dicussion here that the fix in the 1.3 firmware was the same as the work around described here, I'm sure you'll find it when you search

Read all the forum and did not see it. Should I have missed it.
Maybe you could provide with the reference of the post, otherwise you reply is very useless to me.

Then you didn't "read all the forum" -

Thank you Fordem.
The thing is I already read these post and wiki. So your assumption is wrong, I did not miss these posts
Second, what the wiki says is : "Some reports indicates that this is not an issue with Windows XP".
That is a pretty evasive sentence to say noone knows for sure. My contribution here is to say I am on XP SP2, and I got this issue even with firmware 1.03.
Third, the post assume the firmware 1.03 fixed the issue. In my case it did not. And I am not a linux geek who can do such complex analysis or change as described by tobyg
To finish, I am not the only one to get this issue with XP, see this post : http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t140-file-size.html

My original post was problems with XP SP2.
Bottom line, I am on XP SP2 and I upgraded to firmware 1.03 in order to solve to the large file issue and still cannot manage to copy a 4.3 Gig Iso file onto a DNS323 with 200 Gig left.
If I am the only one one in that case, then there must be something I have to change in my config, and I would really thank anyone who was in the same trouble and managed to fix it successfully if she/he could share the tip here.
But telling this issue is not repported (by who ?) to be an issue with XP does not help at all because it is in fact an issue in my case. Telling how to fix it, this would be the perfect answer.
In advance, thanks a million to all the contributors of this forum who provide with lot of knowledge and balance the lack of support from the D-LINK Cie.

First - there was no assumption - you made a statement.
Second - the post you indicate assumes that the reason why the unnamed backup applicatation creates multiple 2GB files is a 2GB file size limitation - well, that's contrary to my experience.
As I have pointed out, after the upgrade to v1.03, I no longer have problems transferring files of any size - however, if I backup using Veritas Backup-Exec I get multiple 1GB (1,048,586KB) files, which according to that post whould indicate a 1GB file limit - on the other hand the same backup with Acronis TrueImage gives me a single 65GB file. Based on that I'd say, the reason for the multiple 1GB files, at least with BackupExec is that it is the way the application functions.
Third - again there was no assumption - on v1.01b and v1.02 I experienced a problem transferring files larger than 2 GB - I went so far as to create test files, one was 1.98GB and the other I believe was 2.1GB - having upgraded to v1.03, I tested and was able to transfer both files as well as the 3.2 GB DVD ISO image that I was originally unable to transfer.
Bottom line - D-Link says the 2GB problem was fixed in v1.03
¤ Fixed Daylight Savings Time causing GUI crash.
¤ Fixed 2 gig limitation for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista .
¤ Fixed e-mail notifications when using RAID 1 Mode.
¤ Added support for *.mp4 files on UPNP Av Server.
¤ Added ability to update firmware without having HDD installed.
¤ Added EDIT icon under scheduled downloads to modify existing schedules.
¤ Requires Easy Search Utility 3.5.0.0 or higher
If you'd like to report it as not fixed - then either pick up the phone and call D-Link tech support or head over to their website and email them.

Dear Fordem
I do not understand your replies to my post.
I am asking for some help, and I may be wrong, but so far you did not provide with any usefull answer to solve the issue I have (and maybe waldpiek and peachfuzz163 and others have too). Then why do you need to start arguing? What do you need to write I made a"statement"?
The trouble I have is I cannot copy a 4.5 Gig iso file on my DNS323 even with the firmware 1.03 and I am on win XP SP2.
This is only a fact, not a statment. The statment is in the wiki and in your replies: "Some reports indicates that this is not an issue with Windows XP".
Let me quote your replies :
"check the wiki for details, search the forum for a work around"
"you didn't "read all the forum"
"Bottom line - D-Link says the 2GB problem was fixed in v1.03"
"If you'd like to report it as not fixed - then either pick up the phone and call D-Link tech support or head over to their website and email them."
Do you realize it does not help at all. I am not here to argue with you. You happen to not have this issue, lucky you. I happen to have this issue. You can help me, I am listening and would be very happy if you could help. If not, could you please let someone try to help because I do have currently this issue, and maybe some others have it too. I believe this place is the best place to find and share some answers with other users.
And please, be kind to spare your very unpleasent last remark regarding asking for D-Link support which is almost non-existent in my country: believe it or not, the current firmware on France D-Link website is 1.01b18 released on October 2006, and the only answer I got to my questions to the support team was to go to the web site, because everything thing was there and they were not aware of any issue at all.
To finish, I will stop replying to you except to thank you for any help you would provide if any. I found your last replies very agressive and I really think some previous post were not justified and then I will not contribute anylonger to this waste of time for all the readers.

I'm not stopping anyone from assisting you - but I believe the most that anyone will do is what I have already done, which was to point that there was a known problem, which D-Link claims to have fixed - at your request, I went further and searched for, and provided links to both the details of the known problem, as well as the work around that was developed.
It does not require a "linux geek" to install the fun_plug which the majority of work arounds on this site need to function, and in the thread I linked to, one of the posters, Phoenix, has provided a downloadable attachment with the work for the Samba fix already done for you - it is now up to you to follow the instructions provided.
I also took the time to point out that this work around was supposedly already incorporated into D-Link's v1.3 firmware.
It is entirely possible for you to have a different problem, which none of us has experienced (if you look at the dates of the posts you use as evidence that you are not alone with your problem, you will see they are all earlier than the release of v1.03) and it is now up to you to define that problem, and may be even find a work around which hopefully you will document here - that is how fora and wiki function, on the contribution of members, even if that contribution is just to confirm that a problem was/was not experienced, and that a fix did/did not work for them.
I am sorry that you did not find the information provided helpful, and/or the required tasks within your comfort zone - and apologise for what you consider an unkind remark - you are however, more fortunate than I, since D-Link does not have a presence in my country, and as such, local support is actually non-existent.

It seems to me also that fw1.03 is, indeed, broken (or at least, my recently installed fw 1.03 from the swedish DLink support site).
More specifically, the samba support seems broken.
Tests (fw1.03, 2 disks, ext2, mounted RAID 1):
Enabled telnet using method specified on wiki, also enabled the ftp server.
Made three files on my home linux box, of sizes 1.5, 3.0 and 5.0G, using 'dd', containing random bytes from /dev/urandom.
Samba:
Mounted the DNS323 on my home linux box using smbmount:
smbmount //<ip-addr>/Volume_1 /home/steve/remote_mounts/dns323
This worked (I could see, read and write small files just fine).
cp bigfile1.5G /home/steve/remote_mounts/dns323
worked, BUT:
cp bigfile3G /home/steve/remote_mounts/dns323
cp bigfile5G /home/steve/remote_mounts/dns323
both failed (File size limit reached)
On the other hand, I could transfer all three of these files via the FTP account, and all showed up in a DNS323 telnet session just fine, with the correct sizes (according to 'ls -lah').
I then went back and checked the reported sizes of the successfully transferred files visible via the SMB mount on my linux box. Files 'bigfile3G' and 'bigfile5G' were reported by the command
ls /home/steve/remote_mounts/dns323
as having insanely large sizes (reminiscent of an integer overflow).
So it seems now that either my samba client (3.0.10-1.fc1.1.legacy) or the fw1.03 Samba server is very badly broken.
If I wanted to go back to a safe fw1.02x, which should I use?

Your experiences are similar to what I experienced with all firmware versions prior to 1.03, in that when I could not transfer files larger than 2GB using SMB, I was able to do so via ftp.
I have no idea why it would not work for you (or cali34) - as I no longer have any problems with file sizes since my upgrade.
In my opinion, downgrading the firmware is unlikely to fix the problem - and at the same time unlikely to make it worse - personally I prefer 1.03 and would stay with it, even if it didn't fix the large file problem, because it fixed email notifications, which was a concern of mine.
Perhaps the 1.03 from the US site - where I got mine - might help.

A quick comparison of these firmware indicates that they are exactly the same:

Srk, as you have telnet access could you post a uname -a from your box?

Sure,

Presumably this is the expected kernel version for fw1.03 ?

You need to mount with -o lfs to get "large file support". See my tests below:
smbfs mount:
cp 1002_20040313200000_20040313222500.nuv /mnt/
Begränsning av filstorlek överskriden (core dumped)

Just for the record, I have the same issue as cali34. I am unable to upload large files 4.5gb to the dns-323. I've upgraded to 1.03 fom the swedish dlink site, but the problem remains I am new to this forum but will look around for the above mentioned fixes. Great Forum btw!
