As I said, there isn't any firewall software on any of my PC's. Or at least, should not be; I don't know if windows does something weird on the background even when the firewall is disabled from the security center?

I still cannot access my NAS thru WLAN from my own WIN XP SP2 laptop. I brought my work laptop (also with Win XP SP2) and IBM's own integrated WLAN adapter to home, and voilá, everything works just fine with it! So basically, my own home laptop using Buffalo's WLAN adapter is the only one that cannot access the NAS thru wireless connection, still won't even ping.
Next I'm going to contact Buffalo's support, it they might have any good ideas. If they cannot help me, I think I'll have to try some other WLAN adapter for my laptop. Or does anyone have any better ideas?

Oh, almost forgot to close this issue.
After all, only way to solve this problem was to buy a new WLAN card to my laptop. Buffalo tech support's opinion was that "this is not a Buffalo's problem" even that it clearly was. Thank you very much Buffalo, never going to buy your products again!
Anyway, now I got D-Link G630 card, and everything works just fine!

Hello,
I'm french, so sorry if my english is not perfect, i'll try to do my best.
So, I have read about your problem with your DNS-323, and your problem was similar than the problem I have.
My network installation:
Router wifi Ovislink WMU-9000vpn
D-Link 323
1 laptop in WIFI
2 Desktop PC wired
I want to give a fix IP adress everywhere with :
DNS ip:192.168.0.32 subnet:255.255.255.0
Desktop pc : 192.168.0.1/2 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.0.254 255.255.255.0
laptops: 192.168.0.3/4 255.255.255.0
should I activate or desactivate DHCP server in my router?
shoud I reserve IP adress in the router?
For the moment i can see all pc eachother with no problem. I can't see the DNS-323 in the D-Link config tool, but i can see it in the network favorite in the win explorer but can't access to it (say that i'm not allow to acess...).
What can i do?

Hi,
I bought this for price and functionality after reading up on it at smalnetworks website. I disabled Wake on Lan, Power Savings (hibernate the adapter), etc...I have a DIR-655 D-Link Gigabit router and the DNS-323. The problem that I see is that the device says it is no longer in use or available even though it is showing in My Computer. I reboot the PC and sometimes that works. Power cycle the DNS-323 and reboot and recoonect (after disconnecting in My Computer) and it comes back. I set a static ip at the router for it (192.168.0.199) and my systems are all doing DHCP (2 desktops + wireless laptop). I map drive G: for the DNS-323 on this desktop due to at the time I had Drives C-F in the system. I have iTunes server running and pointing to drive G (I map it to F on other systems but only run iTunes here). Every now and then with it up from anywhere from 1-3+ days straight I go to connect to it and it says it isn't there. I have latest firmware on DNS-323 and may be 1 rev. behind on router. It shouldn't be disappearing like this for no reason. Powering down the drives has been disabled as well due to not liking to wait for them to spin up when accessing the device to move files to it, etc...
So why is it that this thing disappears for no apparent reason? I am not happy with that part of things. Speed-wise for xfers to it/from it I found that after going from a Linksys 10/100 to the gigabit it was MUCH faster. I was copying files from a USB to the DNS with the Linksys and after ~24hrs it had only copied over like 24+ directories and subdirs of mp3's....that was WAY WAY off the mark for performance...so I went up to the DLink DIR-655 and all of a sudden it was almost as fast as going disk to disk for copying files.
So the problem that still persists is the device going away...I have McAphee Security installed now (firewall, AV, etc) and the router's NAT is enabled and I secured down the wireless side to keep anyone from leeching bandwidth ;-) in my area. I have no issues connecting to the net from any of the PC's at all wired/wireless. It's only this box. I was tempted to dump it and make another PC just for a fileserver...but for now holding off on this. I have 2 Samsung 500Gb SATA II drives mirrored in the DNS323 for data protection in case of drive failure too.
Suggestions? Anyone else seeing it just *go away* for no apparent reasons? I am assuming some have from this thread.
Thanks in advance!
Mike
