I suppose this isn't specific to the DNS-323 but I hope there's some advice out there anyway! For security reasons I'd like to put my DNS-323 in the loft - if somebody breaks in they may take the computers but hopefully not the data, at least that's the theory. However I'd really like to take advantage of the printer server, however if placed in the loft this would be too far away from the printer to use a normal USB cable. The printer is on the ground floor and I would guess at least 10-15m away from the closest place in the loft that I could site the DNS-323. Any suggestions??

If I remind right, USB standard is specified with a max. length of 5 meters ( 6 may be possible).
Their are some "active usb extension cords" on the market which expand the length with additional 5 meters ( you can up to 4 of these cables). ( e.g: http://www.usbgear.com/USB2_extension_C … cable.html)
Perhaps you can also use a cheap USB hub to expand your length.

Honestly, if you're worried about security I would just get a usb print server to plug into the printer and leave your DNS hidden in the loft. That way you could print from any computer and have the printer where you want it. Plus it would have to be a heck of a long usb cable to reach where you are planning on putting things. Perhap something will strike your fancy here...
