Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Hello there,
According to the tutorial, I'm trying to mount my 2'5 external usb disk (ntfs).
I've successfully loaded the usb-storage.ko (firmware 1.03), but the dmesg give me the following error :
Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_platform and address 6
usb 1-1: device descriptor read/all, error -71

usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_platform and address 8
usb 1-1: device descriptor read/8, error -71

usb 1-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_platform and address 9
usb 1-1: device descriptor read/8, error -71

Any Clue ?
Thx

Have you tried fonz fun plug? There is already a usb mount tool integrated. Does work fine here.

Thanks for your answer...
RTFM myself... I forgot to load the ntfs module. But same problem.
I can mount my usb key (fat) successfully...
Something's wrong with my external hd ?

I thought with fonz fun_plug you only get read access for NTFS-disks. So i don't think that something is wrong with your disk.
I don't know if write access is possible at all on none INTEL platforms because of the technique which is used by the
write enabled driver. Doesn't this thing only work if you give him the original driver from the M$ windows world ?

thx for answering.
Yes I can mount the usb disk either with windows or linux (ubuntu feisty). I understand the mount is ro, unless somebody finds out to build ntfs-3g...

After chat on IRC with fonz (thx), this is a hardware problem due to my hard drive enclosure.

Just wondering, does your 2'5 external case have its own power source?

Hello,
I am also getting the same message:
Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...

usb 1-1: device not accepting address 2, error -71

I have loaded the usb-storage.ko module, but what is ehci_platform? Do I need to load some kind of module for that one as well? I have a disk with FAT32 so I don't need the ntfs module.

I got two differet USB/ATA convertes (Chinese no-name) products, but just one of them works with my 80G 2.5" disk (Fonz fun_plug 0.3). The "good" one is even able to work without external power supply :-)

Do you get the same dmesg message as I did on the drive that didn't work?

With my enclosure, I've try both, with and without external powersupply. Same issue...

I'm getting exactly the same problem with my Western Digital Elements 512GB drive with and without a powered USB hub.
Very annoying!
