Sharing&transcoding media for PlayStation3 / PS3

Has anyone tried yet to install FUPPES yet on the DNS-323?

FUPPES = Free UPnP Entertainment Service. A UPnP A/V Server. It allows sharing media to the PlayStation3 / PS3.
See http://fuppes.ulrich-voelkel.de

Unlike TwonkyMedia, FUPPES is free software.

I already installed it on my SuSe Linux 9.3 main system and it works fine...

Is there an installation guide already for making it work on the DNS-323? If not so, I would make that my project to contribute to this community... smile

I doubt, that media converting does work fine on the DN323, the hardware is to weak. Any other opinions ?

Re: Sharing&transcoding media for PlayStation3 / PS3

I think that your title may be misleading.

The main thing that I think people should take away from this is your request to get UPNP working between the dns323 and ps3 (actually, it's the DLNA feature of UPNP that the ps3 is looking for and the dns323 doesn't support natively).

Fuppes sounds fun.. but there's also Platinum UPNP: http://sourceforge.net/projects/platinum/
Platinum is used in the xbox media center package and people seem to love it.

I was trying to do a compile of Platinum this weekend, but there's so much to figure out on the DNS323 on compiling that I just gave up until later (the wiki is nice, but the linux stuff is still a little over my head).

So.. does anyone want to try and build either Platinum UPNP or Fuppes for the 323?  Add it to Funplug 0.4?

Re: Sharing&transcoding media for PlayStation3 / PS3

Yes, I think I should have better named the topic just "media sharing" with PS3, not transcoding.

Thanks for the tip for the other free UPnp/DLNA media server, I'll look into that too.

It would be nice to not have to pay $30 for the TwonkyMedia stuff which has already been successfully run on the DNS-323.

Unfortunately I have two busy weekends ahead of me and won't be able to actually fiddle around with funplug etc. before end of August.
