Hi,
Newbie here. I have been backing up 2 servers (SBS2003 + Win2K) to a hard drive and was running out of space too quickly. So I bought the DNS-323. I used DHCP to get an IP address and worked through the web gui to format it and update the firmware. So far so good. I couldn't get the CD-ROM to work, so I mapped a drive, through Windows. I created a user which matches my domain admin account.
Well, so far I can't get Backup Exec 10.0d to work with it. There seems to be several issues:
I think the problem has to do with the NAS being in a workgroup and the servers being in a domain. I have matched usernames and passwords, but I don't know how to assign share or NTFS permissions to the NAS. I tried to do it the normal Windows way, and it unchecks all of my permissions after I click on "apply" or "OK".
Even when I tried to add a "backup to folder" it wouldn't let me, saying it couldn't find the G: drive (the new map I had created). The only way Backup Exec would allow me to set up the folder was through a share \\backup\volume_1. Probably permissions here too.
Backup Exec gave me an "unknown error", and when I looked it up, it said I should be using a domain account to do the backup. I already am and it was working fine with the singular hard drive.
I need to make sure that the backup works properly and I would hate to have purchased this for nothing. I hope someone knows how to get backup exec to work and is willing to explain it to me.
In gratitude,
Scott.....
