**I know file issues have been discussed in other theads, but I feel the warning should have its own topic.**
I have installed firmware 1.04Beta, and all seemed to be well, music and movie files all worked as per norm.
But i have had MAJOR issues with Office files
All my Excel files where corrupt, any Excel file created was damaged when transferring to the 323.
Since finding this I have reverted back to 1.03, all my files remained intact, but the corrupt office files were still dead. New Excel files created after the revert back to 1.03 opened and worked fine.
As another note, when reverting back to 1.03 ALL my config settings were lost, and had to fully re-configure the unit.
I would advise to stay clear of FW 1.04Beta if used for storing any office documents.

I agree, I've also had issues with this firmware revision. Stay with 1.03 until a proper 1.04 version is released.

This is a beta firmware release...anyone playing with it should be doing just that, playing with it. Don't install it if you are keeping data on it you can't afford to lose, or you or your users need consistent access to the unit.

To me this sounds like a locking issue. Did you work on these files when stored on the DNS?
As the 1.04 version has upgraded Samba I guess D-Link need to change the smb.conf a bit to get it working properly.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

For what its worth, whenever I have problems, like those describe and attributed to the v1.04 of the firmware, its a simple matter of the (linux file system) permissons getting messed-up.
I suspect its a bug of some sort, but the workaround isn't such a hardship.
Whenever a file appears "corrupted" to Windows, I've found that the file permission bits are:
-rwx------
Which, in the absence of any other user mappings, etc. that Windows cannot access the file.
By telnetting into the DNS-323 and issuing a chmod 777 on the file, it is magically "uncorrupted".
Hope that helps someone ...

Same problem here.
Can't even save a Excel or Winword file. Notepad etc works fine.
For the moment I tried
oplocks = no
level2 oplocks = no
locking =yes
in the smb.conf but it didn't help :-(

Thats exactly the point.
D-Link know about that issue and is working on it.

Did it lose your RAID configuration?

i reverted back and my stuff is still left intact

Great. I shared your experience but the RAID was still fine. Just had to reconfigure things like the network etc.

I have the same problem with Photoshop or other Graphics application. Files Are corrupts !!

The CH3SNAS, which has the same type HW, and a 1.02BETA firmware with Samba 3.0.x has also corruptions. Seems that the software is not totally ok for the arm platform :-( Hopefully they can fix it.

Is this only a Samba or a Raid problem or a combination of both? Or something completly different?

Im running the 1.04 beta 21, and have had no problems.
the new version of samba has improved a lot of things - it seems noticably faster, and most importantly, it now doesnt choke on japanese characters in file names!
i just tried a quick experiment, and MS excel files seem to transfer intact using FTP. i havent tried using samba yet - as i did some major network hardware changes last night, and something in the new router (a Linksys WRT54G running ddWRT v23sp2 firmware) seems to be blocking my windows box from connecting (via EasySearch - just keep getting 'Failed to map drive') - telnet, ssh, ftp and sftp all work fine from same box. hopefully can figure that out soon, or i might have to post here looking for help
cheers,
K

I am just wondering when will the official 1.04 firmware be released? Although 1.03 has improved a lot of things over the older firmwares, it still contains lot of bugs (formatting problem when adding new HDD, unicode on samba), and I just don't feel comfortable running a beta firmware when so much data are on the DNS. I back up the important ones of course.
