I noticed that on on v1.02 (and all previous builds as well) that there is no support for unicode filenames. That is, if my filename is

abc長安東路.m4a

and I try to copy it over to the DNS-323, the DNS-323 corrupts the filename into

abc~3$.m4a

Has anybody else noticed this? Is this a limitation of the EXT2 filesystem?

I've only noticed that since I changed to 1.02 (north american site) it can't show the swedish letters å,ä,ö which the 1.01 firmware that came when I bought it (in sweden) could.

Did you ever change your language support by pressing the button located on the Easy Search Utility???

Btw, what do you do when the Easy Search Utility can't find your DNS-323, but you can surf to it via IP and the shares are vissible?

(my DNS-323 is configured with a static IP)

Make sure that your NAS is at the same subnet with your pc that you are using to find your NAS. Also make sure that you do not have any firewalls that may block traffic between them.

I close the Easy Search Utility and launch it again, i found that it will work fine after that. Maybe it has an updated with the Easy Search utility that fixed this issue.

Do you know if changing the language on the easy search utility would allow putting files onto the DNS323 like abc長安東路.m4a ?
Is there a setting for non-european languages? I ask because no matter what I do, using easy search 3.0.0, I simply cannot get it to locate my DNS-323. Yes, the XP box and the DNS-323 are on the same subnet, and yes, I have XP firewall turned off...

Okay, update, I was finally able to get Easy Search to connect. I chose "Traditional Chinese" character set with the "Languages" button in Easy Search 3.0.0. Now, the folders in the DNS-323 can be non European characters, but, unfortunately, the filenames STILL cannot be non European characters.

Hmmmm.... oh well .... I'm close to giving up and just living with it.

Seems that non Euro is not supported on Folders but just filename.

Read somewhere that the DNS-323 have problems using files with nordic letters in them (like Æ, Ø and Å). The DNS-323 would corrupt the letters and replace them with other ones ...

Also noticed on DLinks webpage that you can choose the language in the Search utility, but what if you have a Mac?

I have a Mac, can any Mac user confirm this? Or can a Windows user confirm that there are problems using nordic letters in filenames/directory names?

MiK, were you able to make EasySearch find your DNS-323? Mine is also configured with a static IP, and I can't make it work.

Yes, after I turned off my software firewall completly, EasySearch found my DNS-323.

I have also disabled my firewall completely, and I can even see three short flashes in the network LED on the DNS-323 whenever I press 'Refresh' in EasySearch. However, no devices turn up in EasySearch v2.2 or 3.0 even though contact is clearly established.

Could this be a configuration problem in my DNS-323? I'm running fw v1.01, static IP and KRH's telnet package...

To me it sounds like EasySearch finds the DNS-323, but something blocks the reply sent back to EasySearch from the DNS-323

I have a Mac and a PC. I used ezsearch on the PC to set the DNS-323 to Chinese Character Text. That didn't help at all, meaning, trying to write files with chinese characters (either from OSX or from Win XP) caused the DNS-323 to corrupt the characters and replace them with other ones, often underscore "_".

That may be similar to your experience with nordic letters.....
