360 cant see 323

hi guys,

i have obtained some DIVX files of which i wanted to play from the 360. i found myself a small HD to stick into the 323 and formatted. i know the 323 works with file shares as i have successfully migrated some DiVX files to it,  however, when attempting to find my 323 on the network via my 360, well, 360 cannot find it

i have the MC turned on within the 323 so i cant figure out as to why the 360 cant see it

anyone have any suggestions? and yes, the 323 has a dedicated IP which is in line with the 360. both are attached via a Linksys G router / 10/100/1g switch

completely confused

oh, at one point in time the 360 found the MC which was on the Linksys router (please NEVER use the one from the router as it blows goats).

Cheers

Re: 360 cant see 323

To stream songs, movies, and or pictures you have to install a 3rd party tool that supports the xbox360. Twonky is one such tool that works well on the 323 and the xbox360. I have it streaming movies, pics and music with no real issues. There is a 30 day trail of Twonky so you can see if it works well for you and/or if you like it and they have a version complied that runs on the 323 smile

However due to an limitation with the xbox360, only wmv will stream natively..

Re: 360 cant see 323

i thought since the 323 had UPnP & MC capability that the 360 can just see the 323 with no issues as i have UPnP turned on within the 323 already. im trying to avoid using a PC to stream music / movies and the like. i already have a Vista Ultimate box that streams *.avi (DIVX) via 3rd party tool.

if and when i get to use the 323 & 360 without using a PC is when i will do reconversion of the files to *.wmv

i just thought the 360 could see the 323 natively without the use of a PC

Re: 360 cant see 323

Fickle, twonky is install on the DNS-323 and then does the streaming to the xbox360. No PC needed (well except for non WMV movies). I know me and others have had no problem getting it twonky to work. But not sure if any one was able to get it to work using the built in UPnP.

Re: 360 cant see 323

Hi Fickle - have you considered adding a modded Xbox1 into your networking?

I use it with XBMC and it seems everyfile under the sun fromt the 323.  It finds a the drive as a share, and you can play/view whatever you want.

Best solution around IMHO.

Re: 360 cant see 323

i dont have an xbox1 .. only a 360 & Wii & chipped ps2 (with HD)

i do however have XP MC & Vista Ultimate but this negates my entire desire to get rid of PC's when streaming media. eg, i dont see the need to have my PC on, have it connected to my 323 within the MC of the PC and stream it to the 360. its 3 components when it should actually be 2

efficiency smile

Re: 360 cant see 323

i am for now, ok with the idea of converting the media to *.wmv due to the 360 limitations.. and i await the day someone hacks it to bits to play DiVX natively

i do believe that day will come.. but maybe in 3 years time no doubt sad

maybe i should just get a PS3 as i was told it can play DiVX natively ... but for now, that is just TOOOOOO expensive

Re: 360 cant see 323

An xbox1 can play DivX natively - as well as ISO files.  That is great for me as I have backed my DVD collection and dumped it onto my dns.  The XBMC can then play the files without having to change again to WMV or DivX or whatever.

You can pick up secondhand ones for about Au$99.  A good investment...

Agree - PS3 - way too $$$$$$$

Re: 360 cant see 323

Yea I have to agree I modified my son's regual xbox and it does this as well as other things well. However with the AV and HDTV it seemed wrong not to use the 360 here...
