Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

I think Volume_1 on my DNS is not spinning down despite power management set to spin down after 10 mins.
After a long period of inactivity I can get access to Volume_1 instantly from my Windows PC. Volume_2 takes a couple of seconds to get access and I can hear the familiar click and spin up.
Secondly, if I put my hands on the DNS after a period of not being used, I can feel the right side (Volume_1) is hotter than the left side.
This unit is being used as the manufacturer intended, there is no fun-plug or any other firmware add-ons but there is a printer attached to the USB port.
I have defaulted the DNS through the configuration utility and set it up again but it seems to make no difference. I really need both disks to spin down to maximise the life of the disks and the data. Both disks are identical, WD5000AAKS.
Anybody notice only one of their disks is spinning down?

So of all the DNS-323 owners on this forum, only I have a DNS that spins down one disk only...amazing. Maybe my device is faulty.

Did you search the forum? I'm guessing you didn't - you would have found that there is a know issue with the print server function that causes the disk not to spin down - or rather to restart every time it spins down.

ah yes. I remember looking at this a long time ago but it never affected me so I forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder.

my disk isn't spinning down aswell. However, I never added a printer to the DNS323.
What other issue could cause this? Is there a command to retrieve the RPMs of
the disk?

I deleted the .lpd directory on the Vol_1 drive but that didn't fix it. I then turned the DNS off for 15 mins then powered on. It created a new empty .lpd directory and now both disks spin down as they should.
