RAID Issue

I have two drives installed as RAID1. All e-mail alerts (including "A Hard Drive Has Failed") are configured and I _do_ receive the space status alerts.

I power down the unit, pull out one of the drives, power it back up and wait for some sort of notification that the RAID array is degraded.

But I never received any alerts (except the Space Status messages) and the status screen shows no indication that a drive has failed.

This pretty much make the RAID option useless which is the main reason I bought it. Otherwise looks to be a really cool device.

Any ideas on hacking this thing to make it work the way it should?

Thanks in advance,

K

Re: RAID Issue

my only idea is that that email notification only works "in realtime", such that an email would only be sent if it sees the drive change status while the unit is on.

to test this idea, you could pull out one of the drives while the unit is on... (not something i would recommend to do, but just an idea)

flynn,

Tried that too since SATA are hot plug friendly. Same result.

Thanks.

Re: RAID Issue

crond is among running processes so it should be possible to write a simple script to check /proc/mdstat for degraded array, schedule it to run every 5 mins and fire up an e-mail?

Re: RAID Issue

skydreamer,

Cool, that is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.

Thanks,
