I just got the DNS-323 last week to use as a place to store my media and backup some data. I updated the firmware and set it up as RAID1. Then I came across this community and didn't know if I should install the fun_plug. I set up some users and can FTP into my box fine but didn't know if there were security issues that made everyone want to hack the box. What benefits are there from hacking the box? I don't know much about linux or vi and don't want to brick my box.
I only plan on using my DNS323 to share some files with friends, but are there other things I'm missing out on by not installing the fun_plug? For example, I read alot about people using MLdonkey as a bittorrent client. But I use Bittorrent on my PC to download stuff fine. Is there any difference between this and ML donkey? Also any info on the media server or soundbridge would be appreciated.
Sorry for the long post... any comments or ideas would help alot.

Only you can decide if you should install fun_plug - from my point of view, the standard firmware does a reasonably good job at what the DNS-323 is designed and marketed to do - function as a NAS - Network Attached Storage & print server.
The biggest security issue that I'm aware of is the lack of ftp logging - and I haven't seen anyone fix that through fun_plug.
fun_plug is a reasonably safe, reasonably simple way to add functionality - whatever functionality you choose, limited only by your creativity and the processing power of the box.
Instead of leaving a PC on to run a torrent client, or a webserver or <insert your particular need here>, you could theoretically do it with the DNS-323 which has maybe 20% of the power requirements - at least that's the theory.
