Hi all,
I noticed that the blue light around the power button (i.e. power indicator) dims after a period of inactivity. I figured this probably means that both hard disks are on power save mode. This got me wondering if the "power save" mode in the configuration (i've got it set at 15mins) is activated only when BOTH hard disks are idle or they are independently controlled.
For my environment, I'm using the 2nd hard disk as a back up only. i.e. its not shared on the network and its accessed only via a nightly cron job that does incremental backup of the data in the 1st disk.
I figure if the power savings only comes when both disks are idle, then i might as well take out the 2nd drive and put it in an external case which will be powered on only during the night jobs.
not sure if this makes sense to anyone...

As far as I'm aware the unit spins the disks up/down at the same time.

I'm pretty sure it's independent. At least I can hear how the second disk spins up when I access it after only accessing the first drive before, and ditto for spinning down.
..but the "blue light" will stay on as long as any of the disk are not idle

MiK is correct - I listened a little more closely and was able to detect the sound of the second drive spinning up after accessing the first drive.
