Alternate UPNP AV server

Hi All,

I'm having massive issues with the inbuilt Upnp AV server, basically it failts to catalogue all my files properly (around 170GB).
I'm 'fairly' new to Linux, but do know my way around a little.. and was wondering what the easiest method would be to install another UPNP AV server on the DSM-G600 would be ?
I dont mind getting my hands a little dirty if need be, but the more simple, the better smile

If you have any tips\suggestions\step by step's it would be great!

Thanks!

Re: Alternate UPNP AV server

I would think the simplest route would be to chroot into gentoo and install some other UPnP software.

http://dns323.kood.org/dsmg600/howto:chroot_gentoo

There is how to get a gentoo chroot environment on your DSM, it takes a little while to accomplish but is worth it. Once in you can install any UPnP software just like you would in any other linux environment, either through source or through gentoo's package manager (still source based but at least it takes care of dependencies for you).

Re: Alternate UPNP AV server

OK,  I got gentoo loaded and then got TwonkyMedia server loaded and it WORKS yikes !! I had to use stage3-ppc-uclibc-2006.1 to get Twonky to work.  I'm not strong on Linux, but I'm learning a lot by messing around with this.  Next thing I have to figure out is how to stop the UPnp AV server that D-Link has loaded.  It keeps causing my clients to drop the connection to Twonky every 2 min or so.

Re: Alternate UPNP AV server

I used ps -A to find the process for the upnp from D-Link.  Turned out that there where 2 pids.  I killed both processes and started Twonky again, but I'm still haveing my clients drop the connection to the server every 2 min or so.  Anyone know of anything elese that could cause this?

Re: Alternate UPNP AV server

Update, As it turns out this is a problem with Twonky.  You need to set the server address in the .ini file.  after makeing the changes client stop getting dropped except for the PS3 client.  Others on the Twonky forum are having problems with this as well.

I've been out of town setting up new infastructure for another location at my company so I've not had time to play with the DSM & Twonky lately.  I left off by getting Twonky to work running gentoo over the D-Link stuff but I'm going to see what I need to do to get the gentoo boot going with twonky and will post what works after.
