Failing DNS-323 or failing hdd?

I have a DNS-323, and I'm not sure whether the unit itself is failing or the HDD's are failing. This is how things are now:

When I power up the unit, I can access the network fine. However, after 5 mins, sometimes more, sometimes less, I can no longer access any files. I am still able to get into the web interface. One of the drive lights is continuously blinking, while the other one is just lit up solid.

If I turn it off and back on again, I can access the unit for a short while again. I'm wondering if it could be temperature related. Anyone have any ideas? I'd just like to be able to read the data off the drive to transfer somewhere else. There's nothing critical on there, but it would be nice not to lose that data. I'm guessing that either one of the drives is dying or the hardware controller is dying. I'd prefer not to replace the drive and kill the array to find out. Are there any other ways to find out if the HDD is healthy?

Just FYI, the drives are in RAID0 EXT2 config.

Re: Failing DNS-323 or failing hdd?

Has anybody also tried to read data from a RAID0 EXT2 array using 3rd party software? I just want to find a way to recover my data.

Re: Failing DNS-323 or failing hdd?

If you use RAID0 and you lost one disk your data is gone. However if it is the DNS which is failing. Then move your drives to a linux PC and you should be able to recreate the RAID0 with mdadm.

mdadm --detail --scan >> mdadm.conf

Good luck!
