Itunes server - what is it good for?

I know that the DNS 323 has a built in Itunes server, but what is it good for?  I know it's probably a basic question but I can't find a simple answer.

I currently have all my music on the DNS 323 and have set up Itunes so that it knows my music is stored on the 323.  Why do I need an itunes server?  Does it allow you access to your music without having a pc switched on?  I was thinking about getting an Apple airport express (to stream music wirelessly).  If I set up the Itunes server on the 323 would that mean I can stream music directly from the 323 to the airport without having my pc switched on?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Re: Itunes server - what is it good for?

You can share your musik to another Itunes client with the need of mapping the Music folder to the client. Instead it shows up as a resource in itunes from where you can select and listen to musik. But listening is the only thing you can do. You cant update the server content from those clients.
