Questions from the new guy.

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a DNS-323 after finding out about the forum and a but of research to make sure it was Mac compatible. I bought the 323 and a 750gig drive for one of the bays (left one blank for future expansion wink ) Anyways, so far I have figured out how to access the box from FTP and HTTP. My goal for this box would be to have slim server running my mp3 collection through itunes and to have a torrent client I can assign torrents to the 323 remotely. I have read the wiki about fun_plug and telnet but none really say much about the function of these programs. My question is, what are these two programs and how will they help me install slim server and a torrent client?

Thanks,
-Patrick

Re: Questions from the new guy.

I don't know about the itunes stuff, but for torrent files you may want to test mldonkey. mldonkey can download files from many networks, and offers a web interface from where you can control it. I haven't tested my self on the DNS though, but I have seen posts that mldonkey can run on the DNS.

Re: Questions from the new guy.

Thanks petasis. I will start reading up on that right now. One question to add though. How do I do from out of the box DNS to installing programs? I know it has something to do with
1. Placing a file called fun_plug onto my DNS-323
2. Using my mac to remotely access the Box (telnet?)
3. Possibly installing debian linux onto the box?

The order and details of these steps is a mystery to me. I mean i have read the installation pages for all of these steps but the function and necessity of these programs is not specified.

Regarding fun_plug, start through http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug/0.3/ . For the rest, look at the wiki: http://dns323.kood.org/

Yeap. Both does the same thing, you can download craft's AIO package for DNS-323 (90+ MB) or mine realsimple package (3+ MB).

Both contains fun_plug (by fonz) and MLDonkey (torrent client).
