Hi all, great forum!!
I just purchased my DNS-323 and pupulated it with two Western Digital WD7500AAKS 750GB hard drives. I have set these up in RAID 1 mode and they seemed to have formatted fine. I can see the DNS-323 from either the PCs or the MACs on my network and can copy files of any size to it.
The problem I am having is with Acronis True Image 11 Home. If I try and perform a data backup to the DNS-323, the backup will begin and continue normally for 10-15 minutes. While the backup is working, the network and hard drive lights on the DNS flash (normal operation). After the 10-15 minutes, the lights will stop flashing and remain lit, but the backup software moves no more data to the DNS. The DNS is still accessable on the network so I dont believe it is locked up. For some reason the transfer just arbitraily stops. The temp in the DNS only gets to 114 fahrenheit so I don't think heat is the issue.
Others in the forum have reported good success with Acronis so I am stumped at this point. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Not sure what you solution you are after GhostRiderGrey, but I tried heaps of backup software solutions and I couldn't get anything working really well.
I now copy form one drive to the other and then every month just sway my backup drive over....my local PC is not involved.

He's trying to use Acronis TrueImage - software which backs up or "images" your PC hard drive to whatever you tell it to.

I use TrueImage 10 and have no issues with it. What version are you using?

I think Ghost is using version 11. I haven't tried Acronis, but I'm using rsync for windows "cwRsync" to backup info from my windows pc to the DNS-323. Rsync is pretty powerful once you understand how to use it

Thanks for all the input everyone!!
Yes, I was using version True Image v11, but I have now gone back to v10 and everything is WORKING!! I ran backups for over 5 hours last night without 1 single problem.
Thanks again,

Acronis 11 is a piece of s**t. Check out their user forum and you'll see a lot of people p**sed off at them. I'm sorry that I paid $30 bucks to upgrade. To get everything working I had to revert back to 10 as it had this habit of not running any backup jobs after about a week with no error messages in any of the logs.

So tell me - can Rsync do what Acronis does?
If I'm using Rsync to backup my stuff and my hard drive fails, do I have to reinstall Windows, reinstall Rsync and then recover my stuff?
With Acronis TrueImage - all I do is boot from the Acronis CD and restore the last image - and better yet - there is no learning curve, just point & click, and I can even let it run in the background whilst I work - pretty powerful stuff, huh?
Sure it costs a couple a bucks, but, in a head to head comparison - reinstalling Windows, Cygwin & Rsync + restore against boot & restore - I think Acronis will pay for itself on the very first go round - and that's excluding the time it takes to "understand how to use it".
If you haven't tried Acronis yet - you owe it to yourself to find out how it works - there's a free time limited evaluation.
