Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

I installed my DNS-323 2 weeks ago, formatting 2 WD 750Gb drives in Raid 1. Everything went great and I was able to map it to the three computers on my home net.
Today, I powered it down and de/reattached the cable in order to shift it to a different location... but when I restarted a strange thing had happened: I was now seeing two Volumes rather then one, neither of which I could map using Easy Search. I can log into the admin account, and strangely... I can access the contents of both disks in My Network Places as they are listed there seperately.
I am completely unfamiliar with Raid and haven't the faintest idea of what's happened... anybody have any ideas? Will I be reformatting the drives? Forthunately the contents are backed up elsewhere!

You should not be seeing two separate volumes - reconfiguring the RAID and reformatting is the easiest way out, although I believe there is a quicker method if you have fun_plug loaded and some degree of linux experience.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Unfortunately, although I do have fun plug loaded (I installed it to get mldonkey running) I have zero Linux experience. I suspect I will indeed be reformatting. Do you have any idea what might have gone wrong? Is it likely a hardware issue? Software? It'll take ages to reload everything... I'd hate to have to do it very often.

Oh lord... this just gets worse and worse. I tried reformatting and it got stuck at 94%. Searching on this site I read one poster solved that by shutting down and it worked after reattempting formatting. When I tried that all I got was the error message:
ASP Error: Syntax error At line 1, line => format_wizard_GetInfo(3)
format_wizard_GetInfo(3);
Do I have a $180 brick on my hands?

What firmware is your device running on? Also I don't think the unit is bricked but some how your raid partitions are messed up on the hard drives themselves. I would take the hard drives and remove all partitions on them from a PC. Once they are completely clean put them back in the DNS-323. Make sure the firmware is up to date (1.03 currently). If you are before firmware 1.03 (1.02b) you will have to format the drives first before you can upgrade to 1.03.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm running FW 1.03.
And I believe you're right that the 423 isn't bricked. Believe it or not, in it's current condition it mapped with files still in place! however... it registered with a capacity of only 680gB, substantially less then what it should be. Furthermore, when I try to get into the configuration web page it hangs on an attempt to format.
When you say remove all partitions... is that accomplished by formatting it in windows to a single partition clean NFTS?
Thanks again!

In Windows just delete or remove all the partitions - this can either be done with diskpart or the graphical disk manager snap-in.
