Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

I have a Canon Pixma MP150 (USB), currently hooked to one of the computers in my LAN. Can it be hooked to the DSM USB instead, and if so, what do I need? Unwrapped mu new DSM a few hours ago, and thanks to this place, already have telnet and ctorrent up and running, and have upgraded from 1.02eu to 1.02us. I know I shouldn't complain (we all hate documenting, don't we?), but what about some docs in the binary downloads, or at least a link to the docs?
Cheers!

Well i use it with a canon I550. It works, not too speed but it works.
You need an daemon printer. My LPrng version : http://dns323.kood.org/downloads/people … 28.tar.bz2
You also need the usb printer module http://dns323.kood.org/downloads/printer.o.tar.bz2
look at my previous message http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t105-Printing.html

Thanks! I'll try this when I feel experimental! :-)

It works great for me !
1. : the LPRng-3.8.28.tar.bz2 and printer.o.tar.bz2 packages are ok, but some things must be changed in "fun_plug-printer" file.
Change all lines in fun_plug-printer with :
#!/bin/sh mkdir /dev/usb cd /dev/usb && /mnt/HD_a2/busybox makedevs lp c 180 0 0 1 chmod a+rw /dev/usb/lp0 /dev/null insmod /mnt/HD_a2/printer.o /mnt/HD_a2/local/sbin/lpd
2. : Some precisions about XP Printer install (http://itinfo.mit.edu/article.php?id=6376)
During the process, XP will ask the printer's adress and name. Because my dsm is behind a router, the printer adress is the dsm local IP. Printer name is "lp0"
3. : if your dsm is like mine (behind a router), you must forward the port 515 to the dsm local IP.
Then, I follow the instructions on the post and ... it works great !! (I don't notice slow printing as Bertrand said).
Than you all again for this great forum.
Special thanks for BertrandB that helped me to find my way to the light !

Hello Everybody,
This is my first message in this forum, and as you may noticed, I'm quite a noob and English is not my native langage.
I've just bought a dms-g600 after spending hours on the net to find a device which could act as a network drive and a printer server using wireless. This forum and your contributions have convinced me that it was the device I've dreamt !
I'm now trying to use BertrandB's LPRng module launched with the fun_plug hacks suggested by Artefax. (thanks you two ! )
But something seems to go wrong with the last command that launch the daemon :
bash-3.2# /mnt/HD_a2/local/sbin/lpd 2007-12-04-01:05:40.096 dlink-ADE5FF Unix_link_listen: UNIX domain socket call failed - Address family not supported by protocol
Has anybody already have such a problem, or would you have any idea on a way to solve it ?
My printer is of course plugged on the usb port.
Thanks in advance for any information, and for this forum moreover.
Cheers,
Sylvain
Ps: the only binaries I'have installed for the moment are :
LPRng-3.8.28
busybox-telnetd-1.2.1
printer.o
and also
bash-3.2-1
bzip2-1.0.3
gzip-1.3.5
joe-3.5
Maybe one or more is missing ?

Hi !
I think everything is ok with it :
bash-3.2# lsmod
Module Size Used by Not tainted
printer 9088 0 (unused)
usb-storage 27480 0
rt2500 183520 2
usb-ohci 20808 0 (unused)
ehci-hcd 21280 0 (unused)
bonding 22136 2
Is that what you asked me ?
(I can't find anything dealing with printer.o when looking to the active threads (ps aux)).
Thanks.

Hi
What do you mean by 'the good' ?
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Dec 6 20:38 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 6144 Dec 6 20:38 ..
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 180, 0 Dec 6 20:38 lp0
crw-r----- 1 root root 180, 1 Dec 6 20:38 lp1
I don't think my problem deals with it, but if you any suggestion ?
Cheers,
Sylvain
