WinXP user/group integration

Hello,

I'm looking at purchasing the DNS 323 as a shared network drive in my office.  There's no need to have a super complicated set of security rules, but I would like to be able to have a user sign on their desktop and have their sign on credentials work with the NAS.

Anyone have any insight as to whether this is the right drive for this type of set up, or, whether any hacks out there would allow me to get this working with this drive.

Thanks,
Ryan

Re: WinXP user/group integration

Which OS is running on the users desktops?  If it's windows, are you using an Active Directory
server authenticate your users, or using local user authentication?

Re: WinXP user/group integration

The users are all working on Win XP SP2 desktops via an AD server and authentication.

Re: WinXP user/group integration

There is a wiki article http://dns323.kood.org/howto:bettersamba that shows
how to set up active directory with the DNS-323.  You will need to install Fonz's
fun_plug and run FW v1.04 for Samba v3x which is currently (Dec 12, 2007) a BETA release
in the US.  However the release of FW1.04 in the US is supposed to be
soon http://dns323.kood.org/forum/p8086-2007 … html#p8086
