Seriously, are you trying to stream music from the DNS-323 over the internet using ftp? Don't. The protocol or the server was not made for it. If you want to stream over the internet I suggest that you instead install lighttpd and stream using http instead.

Well, I would like to do that but seeing that its not working and from what you are saying about its not made for it I may try this lighttpd stream method. Just curious, why isn't the DNS323 made for this kind of thing? Does this mean that I shouldn't set it up for photos?
However, I just updated to the new firmware 1.02b today from 1.01 and the ftp server is working much better playing MP3 files. I haven't had one yet where it has given me an error.
Ok, since I am new to the DNS323, and new to Linux. How do I go about setting up this lighttpd server on the DNS323? I don't know where to begin and don't want to brick the unit...

If you are concerned with security. Then you should never use ftp. Install debian and use SSH/SCP for your transfer.
For streaming I guess you could use firefly as well?

Hi there,
I just tried to get access to my DNS via ftp + Dyndns. My problem is, that my router seems to crash when I activate Dyndns (its a netgear RP614).
Now I thought about an other resolution:
Is there a possibility to run a script on the DNS-323, updating the Dyndns every 10 minutes (30 mins, whatever)?
The standard programs don't run, so prob. someone has an idea?
Thanks a lot

So is there step by step for a noob to set up a mp3 streaming server to the internet outside the house and a Picture web server for family to view and or download?
