Looking at the Impressum of www.dl-support.de I find the following statement:

So I wonder why the unofficial 1.04xxx releases are announced as if they are official releases. Especially since they don't show up on the major official D-link web/ftp sites?
Personally I am not going to use a firmware where I cannot determine it's origin.
Any comments?

These are, to my knowledge, D-Link DE beta releases. As we are on the bleeding edge on this site, as well as others, for adding functions and options we test and comment on beta releases. If your not willing to that's fine. I myself only take chances when I feel it has little impact. If I KNOW data lose is an issue I don't even attempt it.
That said I might as well make this easier for the next guy. (Tilly...thanks for the note but could you DL and post it on a free temp site as well? For the time it takes it would save more than a few of us some hassle. Although I think I'm learning to read German...)
You can find a copy here that I posted;
http://rapidshare.com/files/86527439/DN … 0.zip.html
Haven't used it myself but I probably will upgrade over the weekend.

Thanks. Good to know.
Apparently the German site is first to release that version. I'll let you guys give it a try to see if it is stable ;-)
Since 1.04bxxx seems to have a lot changes, I wonder whether Dlink will release an updated manual or at least release notes.

Ask D-Link for the release notes or read the release notes here:
http://www.dl-support.de/forum/viewtopi … 317#133317
The guys from the german DL-Support Board put in the DNS-323 firmware zips always a release note file like this one: DNS_323_ReleaseNote_104b84_01102008.txt
So i wonder why you not reading this files!?

You don't get it, do you?
I am not taking files from unofficial sources. Full stop! dl-support.de denies any relations to DLINK. So why should I take their information as offical?
It seems that these guys have unofficial links to the firmware developers at DLINK and therefore publish firmware versions which don't go through the official DLINK release process. That's fine for people like you who are willing to take chances.
BTW: It still puzzles me that different DLINk sites publish different code versions as the latest release. I assume that the local offices don't have QA people who individually release the f/w. I also don't think that much localization for the various countries is involved.
I would rather prefer one central point of support from DLINK.
Anyway, you are probably right: I should ask DLINK for the official release notes.

No one is forcing you to use those firmwares from german D-Link or from german DL-Support. No one is forcing you to believe the firmware release note informations from DL-Support.de. I see no reason why DL support should fake the release notes for firmwares. But maybe you.

Yes, I am pleased to have the opportunity of DL support, because that has save me a lot of several problems with my DNS-323.

In Germany the D-Link official latest version ist the 1.04b84! But it´s better you don´t use that one for your self.

Fine, than ask for that the D-Link Headquarter in Taiwan. Here you get the contact informations:
D-Link Corporation
1F, No.289, Sinhu 3rd Rd,
Neihu District,
Taipei City 114,
Taiwan
Telephone: 886-2-6600-0123
Fax: 886-2-6600-9898

I have found that upgrading from 1.04B82 to 1.04B84 does not show the update successful message at the end. I waited 20min with the progress bar showing 100% but the message as in the previous updates of successful update did not show up. Normaly I got this message with the ability to reboot. After 20min I used the standard GUI reboot. The DNS-323 came back up with firmware 1.04 1/10/2008. I tried the update again 1.04B84 to 1.04B84 (from same version) still no message after 20min. Any one else with similar problems? May be this is why the firmware is not released yet.

After ca. 3 min. I get the page "firmware upgrade successful". See my image attachment. Thus, it can not be a problem in the firmware, but only something in your DNS-323, or in your environment.

NO, see before! Again: the fw version 1.04b84 is official released by D-Link Germany!!!

Hmm... Yes I got it to work in Seamonkey and Firefox. IE7.0.5730.11 does not show the sucessful page.

Like Tilly, I had the "update successful" message using 1.04B84.

Should it be safe to use the firmware from the German site on a US machine?

I use always the IE with one PC the same IE 7 Version like you. When webinterface use javasript it´s always recommended NOT to use other browsers than the IE. Special then if a browser like my firefox gets a javascript blocker.
Whats now with that from you and my answer to you?

Yes why not?
Or you know the difference between a filename like "Phuket_01.JPG" on my DNS-323 in Old Germany and the same file with the same filename on your DNS-323 in USA!? ;)

THAT - is exactly what I am doing. I know D-Link warns against it, and US tech support may refuse to assist if there is a problem, but US tech support have already made it clear to me that they will not assist me with my US market purchased unit simply because it is no longer in the US so ...

An for me incomprehensible global D-Link firmware philosophy:
As a german D-Link DNS-323 customer i use the official from D-Link Germany released ver. 1.04b84 and I get support from the german D-Link Support. That´s fine. But tomorrow I move to Netherland and than with a problem with my DNS-323 the dutch D-Link Support will not give me support because for D-Link Netherland only the vers. 1.02b114 ist the latest official released and supportet firmware version.
Have a look here: http://www.dlink.nl/?go=gNTyP9CnptFMIC4 … jLOu1rrA==
So what will i do? Very easy, I write or call from Netherland than the german D-Link Support an they give me full support!
Does anyone have an answer why D-Link is handling that like they do? I don´t.

I don't know any official answer but I can speculate that it has to do with the level of expertise of their local technical support people and their relationship with the development team.
For what it is worth, I was able to engage with the support person but it did not look like the development team was reverting back to him. All I get is "I have notified them and will revert to you in a few days" and that is about the end of that bug report

I think the directory structure with this firmware is different from v. 103.x .
I could not get telnet to work according to the wiki instructions, I reverted back to v. 103, and I'm in with telnet. I imagine it's doable to get it to work, but my Linux chops were not up to the challenge.
Just a heads up.

After reading the post. I swapped to using firefox for the update. 30sec after the green bar goes 100% I got the successful message. Retried using IE(with default settings) waited 35min before I go the successful message.

I had telnet with 1.03, I upgraded to 1.04 and still have telnet working fine.

Hi Jayas
As far as I know all european D-Link country departments are working under control of the D-Link Europa headquarter located in UK. So all get the same technical informations from D-Link UK.
