hello,
I have a newly set-up dns-323 and a usb external drive with 300 gigs of data I want to put on the dns-323. My router is only capable of 54mbps transfer speed so moving 300 gigs over it is SLOW.
I have read some posts where other users of the dns 323 were able to plug in usb flash drives to the usb port. My question is, would it be possible to hook my external usb drive to the dns-323 this way and copy over the 300 gigs of data?
thanks in advance for any ideas/help

This should be what you need

Another thing that might be an issue, it is on other devices, is total amount of drive space.
Using the HPMediavault as an example it uses soldered memory, 64mg I believe, that limits it's total amount of drive space to 1.5TB, give or take a few gig. This means if you have two 750GB installed and try to add 300GB USB it won't work. Two 500BG and a 300BG USB would be fine.
The DNS-323 D-Link site says two of any size drives at the moment so this might not be an issue...but I've not read any comments stating this device has successfully handled higher than two 750GB drives.
Just a warning...test with what you have before buying larger drives unless you know it works for someone else.

I have transfered over 400G data from an external USB 750G disk to my DNS-323 installed with two 750G disk (Raid 1, 200G + 1T) without any problem. It's much faster than transfer data though network.

I have a GB network so it's faster for me to use the LAN.
So you have three 750's running with fun_plug and no issues? Cool. Not sure if the RAID level would make a difference.
The HPMediavult and my DNS-323 are both setup with no RAID, Two 500GB WD drives, and sharing files as well as streaming media. (HPMediavult is being turned into a businuss box only this weekend now that the DNS-323 has taken over the media streaming.)
I don't have a drive larger that 500GB to attach to eaither unit so 1.5TB is the max I could do anyway but the developer that hosts the HP site noted that 1.25TB to 1.5TB was the max you could connect across the system. D-Link doesn't have any restriction noted that I've found but if someone has 2TB or more working on a DNS I'd like to know for future refrance and upgrades. (Almost filled my drive space again.)
