what should i do?
Thanks

Did you do anything that might have caused the volume to disappear?
I guess that it isn't simple deleting the share for Volume_1, because you said that the admin UI asks you to reinitialise the disk ... So maybe the master boot record got damaged? Have you asked DLink support?
I would:
shutdown DNS323,
unplug everything,
let everything "cool down" for half a minute or so,
check that the disk is seated properly (yank it out, push it back in)
reboot, see what has appeared.
If that doesn't work, then do you have a PC that you can put the disk in, or can you get a USB to SATA adaptor?
Shut down the PC
Attach the disk to the PC
Reboot with a Knoppix CD in the PC
Work out the "dev" name assigned to your disk (something like /dev/sdb - I don't know how these are assigned?), and run testdisk or gpart. I think both of those programs have the ability to fix broken MBRs, and I had to use testdisk and Knoppix myself recently.
(NB: You need to add a symlink to get testdisk to work with the current Knoppix CD).
Knoppix ISO download: http://www.knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html
Fix for testdisk: http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Bugs/5.1.1CD
If you need more detail, hopefully some of the knowledgable folks here will be able to chip in. I'm not very familiar with Linux command lines, but as I said, I had to do something similar when I recently wrote over an MBR in a PC I was setting up ...

... and I forgot to ask the obvious question - have you only just got your DNS323?
So, have you got some files on the DNS323 that you need to get back, or are you just setting this up for the first time? If you are just setting up, then ignore everything in my last post :-)

Well firstly thanks for the detailed response.
It isnt a new drive, i have had it workin for a while now.
I dont think i did anything that would of caused the disk to disappear. I did disconnect it from the network for a bit but i cant see how that would do anything.
It is in a RAID 1 setup so if one disk was gone i guess it could show this error, since it was lookin for the other drive. (i dont rele know)
I will try the ideas you put fwd.
Since it still remembers my password for admin, would reseting the DNS-323 help?
thanks again for your help

With a RAID1 setup, if one disk failed, the other one should remain accessible - that's how RAID1 is supposed to work, and that's been my experience with the DNS-323.

I just encountered this same problem (was getting ready to post new thread until I found this one). The DNS rebooted after a power outage. Came back up no problems, the Web and Printer icons came back but the volume1 didn't (it's a Raid1, two Seagate 320's). I logged into the admin and the first thing that pops up is it prompting me to set the correct volume and format. I really need this data, so I'm going to pull the drives tomorrow and put them into a Linux box and hope the data is still there. I was hoping Dlink had a way to check a disk via the admin, I guess not, especially if it's not even seeing them. Any fresh ideas?
