As i wrote earlier.. you shout try a different file system like ext2 to make sure that miniDLNA is (or is not) ntfs compatible. I believe that i read a report somewhere, that ntfs does not work... but i cant say it for certain.

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

Hey guys,

first up - great stuff! Yay, a working media server (cause twonky on the 343 doesn't work and mediatomb won't serve to xBox360), amazing work guys smile

Followed the various hints and tips here and got it working on my DNS-343, but two of the extras - thumbnails and chapters - don't seem to work...not sure if I'm doing something wrong.

Downloaded both the packages, installed them, restarted MiniDLNA server. Don't notice any change in either chapters or thumbs whilst viewing from my Series 8 Samsung TV, anything I'm missing?

Cheers,
Klaus

***edit***

Also - is there a way to fast forward through a file? Not the chapter dealio, but just fast forward/rewind as usual.

and last but not least, resume playback from where it started?

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

great stuff.  I have read thru the thread and installed various lib that mindlina requires.  However, I still cannot start up minidlina.  Still getting the following error message

/ffp/sbin/minidlna: can't load library 'libpng12.so.0'

I tried search the forum and google, still can't get a good idea of how to load this library.  any help would be really appreciated.

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

This is great stuff.. I followed all the great instructions here and have my miniDLNA up and running. Thanks everyone for contributing.

I have one question. I have been backing up my DVDs as .VOB files. I also have some .AVI files and some mp4 files. On my TV when go to the video directory, I see that all the avi files have thumbnails while the vob & mp4 files do not.

Has anyone seen the same issue? Any solution? I don't want to convert the VOB files to AVI and lose quality so any solution that would not require that conversion or maintain the quality with conversion would be most welcome.

Thanks for your help in advance.

O.K., i deleted files.db from /ffp/var/minidlna/ and restarted. That did the trick, but lame that I have to re-scan but better than it not working. Hopefully it won't happen again.

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

Does miniDLNA transcode or stream on the fly?

I'm streaming to my LG LE5400 HDTV that has a built-in DLNA client.  When I use miniDLNA to stream video and I push the info button the file is reported as being mpeg4 when it is actually an xvid file.  When using the default UPNP of the dns323, the info shows the correct info.

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

Do You have any ideas how to increase the "capacity" of the server?

minidlna log:
[2011/01/02 22:07:12] inotify.c:189: warn: WARNING: Could not read inotify max_user_watches!  Hopefully it is enough to cover 76 current directories plus any new ones added.

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

So I can't believe I'm the only one having trouble with the two following (I believe they are related):

[2010/12/12 11:37:46] minidlna.c:996: error: accept(http): Too many open files
[2010/12/12 11:37:49] minidlna.c:996: error: accept(http): Too many open files
[2010/12/12 11:37:49] minidlna.c:996: error: accept(http): Too many open files
[2010/12/12 11:38:06] minidlna.c:996: error: accept(http): Too many open files
[2010/12/12 11:38:07] minidlna.c:996: error: accept(http): Too many open files

It's very annoying as at the moment I can only have a small number of a files on my minidlna and have to disable the automatic update, otherwise I will always get the 'too many open files' error.

My thoughts are that minidlna can't find the max open files limit for the DNS 323 so it's just guessing and it's guessing wrong.

Anyone have any guesses? Or any alternatives to minidlna?

andrew,
pls share your experiences on mediatomb. Stability, speed, performance... Eg. how many shared folders/files do you have?
thx

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

I tested mediatomb, ushare and minidlna (350 Go of differents medias)

- Mediatomb work good but with more CPU/Mem usage than others, and it include schedule rescan option
- Ushare, medium memory usage, no scheduled rescan option but index fast
- Minidlna less memory and cpu usage, but indexing very slow (database recreate)

For my usage i prefer minidlna, it work with freebox and ps3 without problem

The ultimate solution ? For me Minidlan with a light rescan mode (take only deletes or news files)

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

I used mediatomb with my freebox, I could read all videos (avi, mkv)
Now I have a Samsung Bluray and I use minidlna. All is OK too and I can listen mp3 directly !

It's sure the indexing is very slow !!!!

For mkv, what is your max file size over the network ?

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

Anyone managed to get this working with alt-f firmware? I've managed to get a version of minidlna working with pause and jump forward/back support, however the version stated to be working in this thread doesn't work for me (problems scanning the media, the call to scandir in scanner.c seems to completely lock up). I also have problems with a version of minidlna that i've compiled from sources.

Any possibility of getting miniDLNA 1.0.19 (came out a couple of days ago) compiled for the DNS-323?

Hi Stealth,

I tried running your latest build dated 16th April and in the log files I found this line. Does it mean that inotify is not working?

[2011/05/01 21:41:44] inotify.c:654: error: inotify_init() failed!
