Strange question - I have to assume that you're a Mac user and you're not happy with your DNS-323 - and why I find that strange is that, although I've never tried to access my DNS-323 from a Mac, I understand it works quite well.

Perhaps you like to do explain the question and tell us why you're not happy - maybe someone can help

Actually I think I understand his complaint. The Easy Search Utility which activates and installs the BT module on the DNS-323 is Windows Based...If you don't have a windows pc on the network I will look for a user-friendly work around.

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

Put this file (BT.tgz) in the /mnt/HD_a2 directory and uncompress it.  Once that is done, reboot the DNS and the bit-torrent client should work.  This will avoid having to use the easy search utility.

Code:

tar xzvf BT.tgz -C /mnt/HD_a2/

EDIT - Okay, it looks like the file is too large to post to the forum (2.5 MB).  Anyone who is interested, let me know, or if there is a spot I can upload it to, let me know.

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

Where I can find commands for BT client if connected to the box through SSH ? I've got ffp 0.5 on the DNS 323

Many thanks.

P.S. Does BT support encryption ? If yes how to turn it on ?

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your question.  The BT client is accessed via the web utility, not SSH.

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

Sorry for the confusion ... smile

I thought I can access BT through the SSH as well ( if working remotely).

Web page is the GUI so I thought that there is a process running on the background and it could be controlled by command prompt (SSH) if connected remotely to the box.

There is, but it is anybody's bet to make a command line interface.

I would like to have it.  If you can send it to me by email (split if you have to) I can then make it available through the web.

Kind regards,

Jaya

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

Craft sent a copy up to an internet file share in this post: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t2253-1.05 … using.html

It is in a rar format, and mine is in tarred gunzip.  You can grab his, or I can email it when I get home from work.  Let me know.

I got it from the Craft's URL.  Thanks.

Will find a RAR decoder and post a URL where others can load it from in tgz format.

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

This is great, bq041.

I struggled there with the easy_search for a while but couldn't make it work.  And this was just as brilliant as it was easy. I must say that my NAS has turned out to be one of my bettertechnical investments, if not the best.

And now with a humble 130 kb/s down I'm very satisfied.

Thanks. Thanks a lot!

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

Just checked the download speed for BT on DNS 323 .. it is awfully slow. sad

The same torrent, downloaded by BT on DNS 323 - average DL is 60kb/s
by Utorrent on the laptop - avergae DL -105kb/s

Is there anything that I could do to improve speed ?

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

Hmmm, "slow" ?
I have 100/100 internet connection :

Factory Bittorrent SDK 2.0 : download speed (max) : 4 Mbyte/s, upload (max) 3 Mbyte/s
Transmission daemon + clutch : download speed (max) : 5 Mbyte/s, upload (max) 3 Mbyte/s.

Megabyte !!! not Megabit

http://"dns323_ip"/web/bt/fe01.html

access BT download wihtout authentication.

ka3ak : Try to setup the download/upload speed for BT manually - do not use the "Automatic" setting

My BT settings :

Port : 50140
Bandwidth Management - maximum download rate : -1
maximum upload rate : -1
max. upload rate when seeding : -1

seeding : Seed until removed

Re: BT on Firmware 1.05

How does this compare to the other torrent software (MLDonkey, rtorrent or w3btorrent http://dns323.kood.org/howto:bittorrent) in terms of memory and cpu usage?

I tried it, and yes I can access that page and proceed without any authentication whatsoever.

Hmm .. I did not expect DLINK to be slack to this extent in their releases.

Try typing in most of the URL's for the DNS Admin section.  Almost all of them can be run without authentication.  The number you see after '?' is just a random number to throw people off.  I forgot which file generated it, but I found it last week.
