DLink confirms firmware error - BitTorrent data cannot be deleted

After a couple of support requests to Dlink Sweden they today confirmed this error in fw 1.05: data downloaded by the built in BitTorrent client into the default directory "BT" *cannot be deleted by the user.*

Even worse, they have no workaround and cannot tell when this will be fixed.

The exact wording in Dlink's reply was:

"We are aware of the problem and have reported it. We are still waiting for a fix. At the moment the only way to delete the data is by formatting the disc." "There is currently no date when this will be fixed. As soon as we have a fix you will find it on our homepage."

It seems obvious that this has been known for quite some time. Still there is NO information on the support pages or in the support Q&A!
Meanwhile, people are downloading, and filling up the free space on their disc(s) just to wake up one morning and realize that the unit just got full - and cannot be used again until it suits Dlink to supply a fix.

TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and Dlink just lost  A LOT of cred in my world!
I am SO fed up with suppliers selling full price IT products with serious software errors.
Aaarrrgh! :-(

Re: DLink confirms firmware error - BitTorrent data cannot be deleted

I deleted these by telnet-ing to the DNS-323 and using the rm command to remove the files individually.

Yup, telnet to the unit and remove the files. No problem there. Or if you mount the drive as admin you can also remove the stuff.

I've mounted the drive as admin, changed and double checked permissions three ways to tomorrow and still can't delete. Unfortunately, I don't know how to enable or use telnet. I'm using OSX Leopard 10.5.5. Can anyone point me to a basic set of instructions for enabling and using telnet in this environment and on the DN2-323?

Thanks in advance - Zak

Re: DLink confirms firmware error - BitTorrent data cannot be deleted

ok. done did that.

Interesting things I've found.

Following instructions for .5 installation didn't work (http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug/0.5/). On a whim, I moved the fun plug files to Volume_2 and restarted once more. This time, the ffp directory was created and the telnet server started. Lo and behold, I was able to access via mac osx terminal. But only Volume_2, as I can tell. Of course, the files I want to delete are on Volume_1... I don't think I can access v1 from v2 telnet...

I recall that when struggling to install the BT service I had to do it with only one drive in the DNS-323. I verified that it worked. But when I installed the second drive, the BT client stopped working. Also on a whim, I swapped the two drives around and found that the BT client working again.

I think my box is confused about which volume is which. Alas, I know not what do to next. Any thoughts?

Re: DLink confirms firmware error - BitTorrent data cannot be deleted

Just do a chmod 777 -R on the folder from telnet and you can manage the files in windows/linux/mac or whatever your OS
