hello,
i have beta IE8 installed on vista and have error window, when adding your gadget to toolbar:
A runtime error has occurred.
Do you wish to debug?
Line: 16
Error: Object expected
after cancelling debug it works fine.

The Vista Gadgets do use IE for their transport, so if you're using IE8 rather than ie7 then it's probably that. I don't really want any more IE on my machines than I can help, so I really don't want IE8 any more than 6 and 7, it's just more proprietary stuff. If you can figure out what it is I'll try to code around it though.
Any idea which file it is which we're looking at line 16 of?

Phil, thank you for the gadget. it is great. Just a very minor thinkg that I am sure you have noticed. The firmware revsion is partially covered by the button on the status page. Thank you again.

I assume you have the latest version of the gadget ( 1.004).
It definitely shouldn't look like that! Try clicking on the "NAS Monitor" text, which forces it to reload. Then watch what happens, in the next few seconds, particularly watch for any error messages (red text) which you should see. That said, it handles all the comms problems I know of neater than that: it should never look like that.
One thing to try... maybe you're logged in to the NAS from somewhere else, a browser or another one of these monitors? I think with fw1.06 it doesn't let you log on multiple times, although you should get a nice red error message in that case.

yes, I have the latest version of the gadget. I tried what you have suggested but it didn't help. When I click "Nas Monitor" it goes really fast and green text flashes by really quick. No red text though. I'm not logged in somewhere else.

philw: how do I uninstall the gadget completely? I want to try to completely remove and install again. because every time I uninstall and install the gadget it already has my settings like ip and password correct. I found this page but nothing here really helped me... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc982277(VS.85).aspx

uninstall by going to Sidebar then right clicking on the gadget and choosing 'Add gadgets' then right click the gadget and choose uninstall. Once done go to
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets
and delete monitor.ini and delete the folders for the NASMonitor xxxxx .gadget

I haven't tried it myself, but if you read a few posts earlier you will find that somebody provides instructions on how to get Phil's gadget working on XP! .......

yes but I prefer a non vista application. Dont want to install other applications to use another.
Besides I have time for it (now I need my NAS(CH3SNAS) to create/test it

it isn't really a vista application itself - just a set of web pages/scripts/pics that are displayed by the sidebar (which is part of vista) - Phil didn't go the activex route. Saying that I did not look into how this gadget actually works on xp.

I love this gadget! Thanks But now I just got the DNS 343 would this gadget work for that model.
Thanks

It is likely to need some adjustments - because the webinterface will be different to the 323. How many changes would depend on how different the web interface is. I imagine the gadget would need to be mostly rewritten, because e.g. the 343 can have a max of 4 hdds instead of 2 - so that in itself would mean adding code to handle the extra hdds.

Yes I understand but it does work fine when you have all 4 drives with raid5 setup I just installed all four drives and raid5 works fine that way was just hopping for a little more with the 343 and this gadget
Thanks for the reply
