Hi, I'm trying to get my DNS-323 to work wirelessly with my Mac; however, I have been hitting a few walls along the way. I have tried in vain to do this using the wiki and forum searches, but I think it's time to start asking questions.
I am at the point where I am trying to get optware installed, but when I tpye the follow address in I get "bad address"
wget http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa … 10_arm.ipk
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Phil

So are you using a wireless router to access it? Dongle? I guess what I'm asking is what is your setup to try and point you in the right direction.

Hey thanks for the reply. I've been trying to connect to it wirelessly to no avail, so today I picked up a crossover cable and attempted to get to it that way. No luck there either, with the exception of seeing it in my itunes sidebar (but still unable to access it). A warning popped up saying that it could be a firewall/port block error. I'm now investigating this avenue.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated. I bought this back in Novemberish and its just sitting on my desk waiting to get filled to the brim with data.
Cheers,
Phil

Where did you type this?

The questions that's been asked and not been answered, amounts to how - how are you trying to connect to it?
Yes - I know, wirelessly - but the unit itself has no wireless radio and so you must either connect one to it (via the USB port, which as far as I know, is not an option) - or - connect the unit to an existing wireless network using either a wireless access point or wireless router.
Connecting it to a single computer via a cross-over cable can be done, but, it's not the way the unit was designed to be used (it's designed to be connected to an existing network) - and - if that's your need, you might be better off with a firewire or USB external drive.
You really do need to explain what it is you're trying to do, if we're to assist in any way.

Ahh yes, sorry. I've had the 323 attached(Ethernet cable I believe) to my Dlink router (DIR-615) and attempted to gain access to it through a terminal(telnet then ssh) on my PC. Being that the software packed with the 323 is windows based.
- Once I was able to get to the terminal I installed Fonz' Fun-plug 0.5 and followed the steps on the mac osx user page in the Wiki.
- I began working on the "Adding Bonjour support to the DNS-323" section of the page and got as far as the wget command...
---------------------------------
cd /mnt/HD_a2/
mkdir ipkg
cd ipkg
wget http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optwa … 10_arm.ipk
--------------------------------
ending up with my original post question. Why am I getting a bad address when I type this in the terminal? (question worded better...i hope) I tried going to the site via firefox as well, but getting the file that way didn't seem to help any. It downloaded to my desktop, but then I didn't know what to do with it.
Ultimately, I would like to use the DNS-323 as a storage unit for all of my media, and then be able to access this media wirelessly over my home network via my Macbook Pro and have the 323 connected to my router downstairs. Connecting it using a crossover cable was a last ditch effort in trying to make the thing usable.
I hope this clears things up a little.
cheers,
Phil
p.s. and thanks to whom ever for moving it to where I now assume is the proper place for this post.

how does your 323 gets its ip address? dhcp or specified manually (static) in the web gui? If you have specified the address in the web gui have you also specified the gateway and dns server addresses?

Hi, I've finally had a chance to get back at solving this issue. I couldn't remember if it was static or dhcp, so I went looking. I forgot the ip and figured I would just check my router's traffic to see if anything familiar appeared. Once I looked at the logs I saw the problem. The ip was not on my list of permissions, so I just typed in the mac address and presto! It began to work. I just needed to allow it to access my network. Doh!
It now works wireless.
On to the next step I guess. (Iuusac) I connect via a static ip and have run the setup wizard, so I believe my gateway and dns server addresses are all set- I think.
(sala) I typed the path for the optware within the terminal window in the ipkg dir.
Cheers,
Phil
