Re: ffp/start folder permission

that folder is owed by root, when you are copying from the PC/MAC you are probably connecting as user 'nobody' or another user with lower than root permissions, so you will get this permissions error.  Telnet or ssh to the box and copy your file from the console, or edit /ffp/etc/fun_plug.local to refer to wherever your script resides.

Re: ffp/start folder permission

I am also new and think I have a related question.   I am having problems setting permissions on folders/files on the DNS-323 from an XP Pro desktop.   Simply cannot change permissions in many cases.   A simple example problem relates to two similar spreadsheets in the same folder: one I can read/open into Excel, the other I cannot.  The second one only has R/W permissions granted to nobody while the first has permissions granted to 501 and everybody also.   I cannot change the nobody ownerships in general although a power and the administration groups are listed.   The two excel files have created dates within two minutes of each other as each were "test files" I was playing with.  Incidentally, I can move the "defective" file to another location on the DNS-323, but not back to the windows file system.  Is there anything I can do to recover access and also gain control of the permission processing?

Re: ffp/start folder permission

you are accessing the files via samba as user nobody belonging to the group 501.  This is normal.  I think that there are some issues regarding office files and the dns-323 (search the forum & wiki), but in terms of getting control over the file permissions, yes this is possible.  Install ffp 0.5 or just a simple fun_plug with telnet access.  You will then (after installing either of those) be able to get root (administrator) access via the console (like a dos/command prompt but much more powerful).  Once you have console access you can do whatever you like with the file permissions (hint: look up the following commands: chmod and chown).  Out of the two methods I list I would install ffp then it is there when you want to call on it again and expand your box.  Go to the wiki http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp for info and http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fun-plug/0.5/ for the files and the readme.
