The documented max disk size supported is 1TB. You should also check the supported disks:

buuut unfortunately can't seem to download it because I don't have a French IP...bugger.

In any case, try with a non-1.5TB disk, see if you can get ffp loaded on that.
All I did with mine was download the fun_plug.tgz and fun_plug file and chuck em on Volume_1

Thanks for your reply.
I hate to think that the disks (which it accepted without any sign of pain) are the problem, because they cost more than the DNS-343, and I would be more likely to eBay the DNS box and keep the disks.  It is working perfectly, if somewhat slowly, and has been for over a month.

Also, my drives are mirrored, so each drive is "only" 1.5 TB.  I was kind of hoping that it would be happy with that because the total size is the same as 4x1GB with raid 5, and each drive is smaller.   Of course hope and computers are a notoriously bad combination.

But you may well be right.  1TB disks looks so small these days (in fact, so do the 1.5s...)  I have one and The Woman has the other.  She would not accept less than 1.2 TB.  Maybe she needs more discipline...:-)

I could try to format them as 1TB and see what happens.  But then I would have to back up all my backups...

I have a suspicion that the 1.03 French special firmware is just correcting some misplaced le/la and acutes and graves.  They are very particular about their spelling, these Frenchmen, savez?

I find it totally bizarre that a system that runs on Linux does not natively do NFS.  What were they thinking?

How much kill?  Total kill or recoverable kill?  Have you managed to unkill it?
Are we talking Delorean-into-the-train kill, or is it just resting?

And just let me confirm that you installed the 1.03 firmware, not the 1.02a Beta.
It is no surprise they tested the 1.03 on the French - they have a national style with wounded indignation that is world class.

I have the DNS343 configured as two petite mirrors of 1.3TB each.  So Volume_1 and Volume_2 are both mirrored.  Does the fun-plug mechanism care about the disk config?  I'd'a thunk that a file system is a file system is a file system, and it should not matter how the volume it is on is implemented.  But one never knows.

I am somewhat eager to get this to work because the performance between the Macs and the DNS-343 stinks - 13MB/sec using SMB and 22MB/sec with FTP on 1GB everything with jumbos on at both ends (and a Procurve 1400-8 in the middle which claims to understand them.  My old lady's backups are taking 20 hours, and I'm copping heat as a result.

I am hoping that AFP might make it a bit more gooder.  But no fun-plug = no AFP = no domestic bliss for Ploughguy.

Well roger me senseless.  I have Macs.  I copied the fun-plug files using a windows virtual machine, and Viola, it works.  Clearly Windows is setting the execute bit and OS X does not.  It was the Fonz's mention of execute permission that did it.  Thank you!

Not the slightest bit sure. 

But there was definitely no .sh extension - I copied the files using Finder, which generally does what we expect.  Including, I suspect, not setting an executable bit for what it thinks is an SMB file system because AFAIK they don't normally have one. 

Of course, I expect correction on this last point to be swift and merciless!

I am now trying to figure out how to get ipkg to work so I can load Avahi.  The DNS-323 solution does not work.  The DNS-321 version (using glibc?) doesn't work either, but at this point it is not working better than the other one - ldd is, at least, seeing all the libraries.  I am seriously wishing I had bought a Synology box...  It seems to have all this stuff preloaded.  The number of otherwise potentially enjoyable hours that one spends crashing around trying to get this stuff to work is a shocker.  Also, the performance is still revolting, although the smb.conf patch seems to have added about 50% (to about 20MB/sec.)  The missus is trying to access it by WiFi and it is not good at all - 5MB/sec tops.

Just to update you folks, I can verify and confirm that fonz' fun_plug works like a charm on this 1.03b60 FW. I haven't had any issues with my 343 since the last time I posted here at this forum -- the only time I had to flash it with a FW other than the 1.02 supplied by Dlink. I have never had any issues, and can confirm that it is stable with fun_plug.

I did find out that 1.03b60 uses a newer kernel:

...and hence I can't use any modules (for usbdrive, etc...), and can't chroot Manuel's Debian like I used to with my previous 323... oh well. Hopefully soon. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated...

I have been using my 343 with my NMT PopcornHour via llink and it's just bliss! 4x1TB WD GreenPower HDDs on RAID5.

This firmware is now available from DLink in Australia (and possibly elsewhere.)

Loading it into my DNS343 with 4 x 1.5TB did _not_ require a disk rebuild - it was exactly as it was before.
The release note in the download area says that this is an interim version.
