Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

DNS 323 showing existing hard drive as new.

Hi All,

Need help here.. My DNS 323 was working fine for a month and all of a sudden this afternoon start to act weird.
Here's what happened. I was transferring files from my ubuntu box to it. Then suddenly it stopped (forgot the error message)
tried to refresh the file explorer.. nada.. so naturally I tried accessing the web admin console. Still nothing

Tried sshing into it (I have fun_plug installed) success. Now since I can't access it share / web admin.
Next logical thing to do (according to me) Was to just reboot the unit. Which I did thru shell.
After rebooting. I was able to access web admin. But.... it reported that Drive 1 not formatted!!!
It's acting like I just plugged in a new hard drive. So obviously I skipped it.

What do I have to do guys? I'm almost certain that my data is still intact. But how do I retrieve them?
Can I use a sata enclosure or something and mount them on my ubuntu box? Or is there an easier way?
Since I currently don't have any sata enclosure.

Here's the detail of my box
Firmware 1.06
HDD used ST31500341AS Vol 1 (1.5 TB Seagate 7200.11)
     ST31500341AS Vol 2

Location : [VOL 2]  <<<DLINK LOGO>>>  [VOL 1]
Fun_Plug version : 0.5

Thanks for all the help guys

Re: DNS 323 showing existing hard drive as new.

the flash may have lost the serial number of drive 1 or some other config corruption.  Don't panic (yet).  I am sure one of the experts here will be able to resurrect the drive.  But an alternative is to pull the drive (323 powered down) and insert it directly into your ubuntu box, boot the ubuntu box and it should mount the drive automatically (I have done this with Ubuntu HHeron).  If you have problems the file format of the 323 with your f/w is ext2.  In fact I would suggest that you do this and backup your data before you attempt the suggestions that I am sure others will come up with to get the 323 to recognise the drive again.  Also, if you decide to format your drive after backing it up make sure that you are 100% sure which drive you are formatting as there have been many posts here about the 323 saying that it is going to format one drive and then it ends up formatting the other drive instead - serveral people have lost data this way.

Hi Luusac,

Thanks for the input. So I guess I got no choice but to buy an external enclosure and mount that hard drive to my ubuntu box? *Sigh*
O well I guess I got no choice but to spend more money. neutral

Can't believe this NAS box is so damn unstable.

Re: DNS 323 showing existing hard drive as new.

you don't need an external enclosure if you are prepared to open the case of your ubuntu box (assuming it isn't a laptop etc) - just plug it in like a normal drive

Re: DNS 323 showing existing hard drive as new.

pity.  What you could do is boot a desktop with an ubuntu livecd (having previously plugged in the drive) - so you will get ubuntu without having to install it to disk.

Hello,
You probably do not need an enclosure try the universal hard drive adapter from apricorn

http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail. … &id=39 .

It was on sale about a weekback on JandR for 29.99 last week. I used it on a windows machine while my friend successfully used it on a linux machine.

Hope it helps.
