Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

fun_plug is now on vol_2 in DNS-323!

Hello!

Really great forum!

This is the sequence of events:

1. updated 1.05 firmware to 1.07 without any disks.
2. inserted FIRST seagate 1.5 TB drive into LEFT slot of DNS-323(looking from front).
3. formatted as standard drive(no RAID or JBOD), logged into web interface etc.
4. installed fun_plug by copying fun_plug.tgz and fun_plug and rebooting.
5. followed procedure for enabling ssh(icluding the part where the root password is saved into flash memory).
6. followed procedure for disabling telnet.
7. also installed bash.
8. all worked fine.

Now...

6. bought SECOND seagate 1.5 TB drive  and inserted into RIGHT slot.
7. DNS-323 gave message about new drive needing to be formatted, etc. Said OK.
8. after completion of formatting and rebooting, ssh login didn't work.
9. re-formatted both disks and copied fun_plug.tgz and fun_plug into vol_1. didn't work after re-boot (not able to telnet or ssh).
10. copied fun_plug.tgz and fun_plug into vol_2. it worked.
11. redid above procedures, except for saving the root password into flash memory.

Everything now works as before, except that fun_plug, ffp, etc, now reside in vol_2 instead of the usual vol_1.

Is this OK? Can I start copying data into the drives? Has anybody else faced this issue?

Thanks.

Re: fun_plug is now on vol_2 in DNS-323!

I think that volume_1 is the right hand drive as you look at the unit, and volume_2 the left hand.  This causes these kinds of problems when there was originally one drive int he lefthand and then another one was added later to the right hand.  What might of happened is you also formatted the first inserted disk in stead of the second - this would be why you lost ffp/telnet/ssh.  There is a well documented bug where the wrong drive gets formatted.  dlink are working on a fix to this in f/w 1.08.  Make sure you don't have two fun_plugs /ffp etc otherwise things get confusing.  You should be good to go after that
