Before attempting funplug on my DSM-G600, I compared the software release dates between D-Link and Conceptronic. Since Conceptronic continued to update their firmware through 19-Sep-2008, I downloaded it and compared the U-boot headers and kernel information between the different firmwares. It seems the 1.0.6 firmware uses the same 2.4.x kernel as all the D-Link firmware, so I flashed it in. My initial impressions are that the Conceptronic firmware and GUI pages are more intuitive than those in the D-Link firmware.

I'm not using the wireless access feature of my DSM-G600, it's wired into my home network. I loaded funplug and enabled telnet already, so things are looking good. I'm not certain whether I'd rather use Debian or Gentoo as a chroot system, though. Any comments/suggestions based on previous experience? Thanks.

You should use the one you know better. Personally I like Gentoo better but if you would like to try all kind of different packages then debian would be better option since debian has binary packages. If you know exactly what you want then Gentoo is better.

I'll probaby load Debian, then. I'm much more familiar with it and apt-get than I am with Gentoo and building from scratch. Thanks, Sala!

How to return the d-link firmware back to G600?
I flashed my device with CH3WNAS firmware and have a problem with cyrilic symbols,they are not displeyed correctly!!!

Where are they not displayed correctly ?
the problem may be correct with a fun_plug tool. (I think it's a smb config problem)

There is no "vi,ed, dtpad. textedit, xedit" commands here....

problem solved
i just copy smb.default to pc via telnet, change character set and copy back to g600....
