Lost Data / Empty Folders

Hopefully someone here can help me.

I have a D-Link DNS-323, and when logging on it isn't showing all the folders that it used to, and some folders are clearly missing some files.

It uses a JBOD setup, and all lights are correct on the front with no indication of a fault, confirmed by D-link support.

Here's my problem. To 'fix' the issue, D-link have suggested updating to the newest firmware. But, when logging into the DNS admin page I cannot get past the reformat screen. Obviously i don't want to format the drives, i just want to get into the admin options/setup.

I have reset the DNS on the back, no joy.

I have tried so many things, i just want my data back, it appears i have lost so, so much due to this problem with the DNS and its pretty upsetting.

It has got to the point now where i'm desperately just trying to copy off what i can see from the DNS onto my laptop, and it loses connection within minutes of the copying process. I can't even get whats left off!

Does anyone here know how i can fix this? Or, how i could setup a JBOD > USB > Laptop setup to try and run recovery software on it (if at all possible)???

Any help would be much appreciated.

Mike

Re: Lost Data / Empty Folders

if you are using a wireless network use a direct cable connection instead and see if the connection stays up for longer, other than that I hope someone else can help

snooplewand,

I was wondering if you were successful in your attempts to recover data?

I am having similar issues and your feedback would be highly appreciated.

Thanks ...

Nope, sorry boskovuk, no success as of yet.

D-link support are no help what-so-ever, so i'm still clinging onto the hope that someone here can help.

Well, I agree with you - I don't DLink support is actually capable of fixing this problem. No way.

I kept reading and this is the product and procedure that actually might work. Read these two links, let me know what you think:

This recovery tool, UFS Explorer Professional Recovery, seems to be properly build and suggested steps (drives to be taken out of DNS323, connect to the Windows SATA support motherboards, etc.) make sense.

I should be trying these steps soon (tonight or tomorrow). I will provide the feedback about the tool.

Re: Lost Data / Empty Folders

Interesting. My only concern though is that it doesn't mention JBOD anywhere there. This seems to be the hurdle i hit everytime with file recovery software.

What do you think?

JBOD is listed - check the second URL I sent:
Embedded RAID tool allows to recover data from failed software or hardware RAID and supports virtual reconstruction of RAID0, RAID3, RAID5, RAID6 and JBOD with flexible RAID configuration that includes RAID reconstruction.
