Help: How to directly connect the DNS 323 to my PC.

Hi to all,

I'm a newbie when it comes to networking.
Can anybody direct me on how to access my DNS-323 directly to the LAN of my PC.
What static address should i put and do i need different lan cable for it?

Thank you!

Hey!

use a texteditor (notepad) and give the following line:

net use X: \\IP-ADRESS_OF_NAS\Volume_1 /USER:admin PASSWORD

on saving give the file the ending ".cmd" . That's all. If you click it twice, it will mount the NAS as drive X to your Windows-PC. If you put a copy of that file into your startup-folder it will automatically connect at boot.

greets
Torsten

Re: Help: How to directly connect the DNS 323 to my PC.

use an ip address in the private range - do a search for private ip address ranges.  You will need to give your network card on your PC a static ip address too.  e.g. dns323 could be 10.0.0.2 and computer 10.0.0.2 make sure you have the right netmask.  Try a standard patch cable, depending on your network card that will work.  If it is an older type of card use a cross over cable.  This is for direct nas to pc connection.  If you are using a router or switch you can probably use a standard cable.

If you want to connect it to your lan are you using a switch/router etc?  You will need to either set the nas to get its ip address via dhcp and have your router setup to give ip addresses via dhcp, or set a static address on the dns323 and set the router accordingly so you don't get any conflicts.  If you have a static or reserved ip address for your nas you can access it by the ip address, or you can use the nas name (whatever you called it) to access it.

Just make sure that if you are setting ip addresses manually/statically that you use the same ranges/same subnet.
