Re: Optware and minidlna

I have installed minidlna as posted, but once the db is compiled the DLNA server disappears from my network, and the log says states:
inotify.c:189: warn: WARNING: Could not read inotify max_user_watches!  Hopefully it is enough to cover 1489 current directories plus any new ones added.
[Too many open files]

Anyone help a guy out?

Re: Optware and minidlna

eclipsed7, i get this and it causes further issues down the line (posted about here: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic. … 732#p39732). Or seems to at least

My solution (all be it a crap one) has been: turn off inotify and whenever i want to update delete the db and restart minidlna .. crap but it means i can actually stream my stuff

Great, I will give it a try. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Optware and minidlna

I'm also very interested in the latest build.  It might fix my problems with my Sony Blu-Ray player since I've seen a couple of Sony related patches have gone in since last time I checked on it.

Re: Optware and minidlna

I have successfully installed minidlna (1.0.21) but it is not generating (or supplying) thumbnails for images (jpgs) when viewed on my sony tv.
It is generating and storing thumbails for music album art.

Any ideas, I have tried reinstalling libjpeg but with no success.  Is there a parameter I need to set in minidlna.conf?

There are no entries / errors in minidlna.log that relate to thumbnail creation so I am stumped for troubleshooting ideas.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

K

Re: Optware and minidlna

Hi all,

I have managed to sucessfully compile 1.0.22 of MiniDLNA on my DNS323. I can also confirm it works VERY well (so far) with my Samsung 40" LED (http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-a … D6100SKXXU).

Some notes (mainly for if I need to redo it myself again ;-) hehe):
* I used this URL for the dependencies (installign using funpkg) - http://numsys.eu/divers/minidlna-cvs-fr … mpil/with/
* I compiled it using "make" after manually applying the changes from plord's Build scripts (see: http://www.plord.co.uk/funplug/ - specifically build.tgz). This was mainly so I could see what it was doing.
* When I built the package, the PREFIX line didn't work, I had to use DESTDIR instead (eg: DESTDIR=/ffp/tmp/distrib make install)
* After installing, I reconfigured the minidlna.conf (in /ffp/etc) to point at the correct folders. I also setup a cache and log path in: /ffp/var/cache/minidlna/ and /ffp/var/log/. I also added a Friendly name to the conf too. This is the name that appears on my Samsung (under the Smart TV section).

I can also confirm it works *PERFECTLY* on the PS3 too. smile

If anyone would like the file - I have put it on my website here: www.thingy-ma-jig.co.uk/sites/thingy-ma … 1.0.22.tgz (It works for me - I claim no responsibility if anything bad happens! :-) heh)

Now to start populating the media folder smile

Hi njt1982

With Inotify or you should rebuild database each time you add a file ?

Re: Optware and minidlna

I believe it has iNotify (how do I check?)

I'm in the process of copying my photo library into it. Each time I go into the SMART feature on the TV and select "show all folder", new ones appear without me doing anything to the daemon service on the NAS... is that what you mean?

Re: Optware and minidlna

Yes I think, after scan complete just add or remove one file, if you see the change on TV no problem

But it's very strange If you don't add something for Inotify

Can you post the result of

grep inotify /ffp/var/log/minidlna.log

Re: Optware and minidlna

I shall try to have a look tonight (at work today)... Later yesterday afternoon I added extra content and had to restart MiniDLNA to get it to appear so I'm thinking inotify isn't enabled...

How do I enable it? Part of the compile process I assume?

Re: Optware and minidlna

No There is a problem now, I'm working on it

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=d … id=1121516

Ok with http://numsys.eu/divers/minidlna-cvs-fr … 111021.tgz

But not with last release

Note you should also add inotify package and adding "unimit -n 65536" into /ffp/etc/funplug.local script file.

If ok you can test

# ls -l /dev/inotify
crw-rw-rw-    1 root     root      10,  63 Sep  7 16:19 /dev/inotify

You can check for inotify working, running command:
Code:

su nobody -c /ffp/share/inotify/inotify-test

Re: Optware and minidlna

I was able to install mindlna on my Dlink DNS-321 using the very helpful posts in this thread. The server works well for about 30 minutes, but then the hard drive lights on the NAS turn pink and I lose connection to the NAS (even from windows). I can still SSH to the NAS using Putty, but that's the only way that I can access it. This happens even if I don't access the NAS, so it doesn't appear to be related to the streaming. If I restart the NAS it becomes accessible again, until about 30 minutes later when the problem reoccurs. If I don't start minidlna the NAS functions correctly with no issues. I have a large number of files (over 10000) on the NAS so I'm wondering whether the number of files causes a problem when creating the db.  Has anyone seen this problem, or knows of a possible solution?

Re: Optware and minidlna

stealth,

With the 111021 package, I am getting an error with inotify.
---
inotify.c:634: error: inotify_init() failed!
---
I looked into this, inotify_init() returns -1 with errno set to ENODEV. But there exists "/dev/inotify" in my system

---
ls -l /dev/inotify
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 10, 63 Dec 21 04:33 /dev/inotify
---

I also tried installing sirmax's inotify fix, but with no luck. I am using ZyXel NSA-221 with the latest firmware (4.23) which runs kernel 2.6.24.

Do you know if inotify is supported in this firmware/kernel?

Re: Optware and minidlna

Hi I don't know NAS 221, just 323 and there is no problem with sirmax's inotify fix

Re: Optware and minidlna

Hi all.

I need to build my own cvs minidlna on ffp for my DNS-325. Could someone make a complete tutorial step by step to explain how to do that ? It will be useful for all...

Thanks in advance for that.
