DNS323 Not booting, error message.

I've recently bought a DNS323, it won't boot and plugging into the Serial port gave the following;

OK
** LOADER **
** MARVELL BOARD: RD-88F5182-NAS-2 LE

Verifying Checksum ... Bad Data CRC

After the Bad CRC message, it reboots and starts over again.

I tried flashing the original firmware back into it using the guide online (Kermit upload via terraterm) but its the same.

I recon its probably a bad Flash IC, as you get an error when flashing the firmware saying it 'can't delete block' maybe 10-15 times but the flash operation completes without crashing out.

If it is a Bad IC, I can change it, I have Surface mount rework equipment, does anyone have any scrap boards laying about that I could rob bits from?

Cheers, Dave.

Re: DNS323 Not booting, error message.

I got something similiar. For me it wasnt possible to upload the orignal firmware it was too large.

Does it work using the debian installer (which is far smaller)?

more info here http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4656

Re: DNS323 Not booting, error message.

Hi bjby,

I've not tried it with the debian installer, to be honest i'm a bit of a noob where anything linux is concerned so I don't know where to start at the minute.

Tonight just for fun I tried uploading the oldest image I could find which is 1.03, from the D-link website, dong so showed that its definitely a flash related issue.

Any clues? Is there a guide to installing using debian?

Cheers, Dave.

Hi! I'm sorry, I do not know English. (= Google Translate)
I have a DNS-323-B1, which gives the following message:
