Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

What is weird is that if you give the Samsung the media in direct (usb...) internal mkv subs work perfectly !!!

Hi LuckyBlack,

I don't see the point right now to update it...
The 1.18 samsung patched version I've made works so far (thumb, chapters, subtitles, inotify) on my PS50C6500 Plasma TV.
Do you know what has been added since the 1.18 which is worth it ?
Cheers

I don't know exactly what has been added, but minidlna arrived at 1.025 version (your version work like a charm anyway , i use it on my LE46C750)

do you know if there is a better patch for samsung, something that let you choose how many chapters you want or that enable the FFWD and RRWD ?

None that I've seen. I'm still receiving minidlna updates from the sourceforge projet but I haven't seen anything new for Samsung (but I might have missed some threads...)
From my point of view I doubt we could modify / enhance the chapters (predifined and limited) or the FFWD / RRWD (only few seconds at each 'jump') as the original Samsung software does the same (I can't remember its name).[MAJ] stupid me it's in the topic title : 'PC Share Manager'

What might stimulate me to look onto a new version of minidlna a compile it for our DNS-323 will be the possibility to force the choice of audio tracks (included in the mkv) by setting a parametre in the minidlna.conf as our Samsung TV does NOT support multi audio track (but I think we can lure it by forcing to stream a define audio track).

That's it for now smile

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

Hi
I was looking at the forum a lot, found some package of miniDLNA which I was able to install and get into inotify 100% CPU issue. Switched it off and found this post.
I guess I could use your packages but links are dead :-(

Could you update some links with inotify issue free version (any compiled - I'm not that strong to compile my own... :-( )

thanks in advance
bart

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

HI all,

I successfully installed miniDLNA on my DNS321 through funplug - I can now play movies on my Samsung TV.
The only issue is that some of the files don't get indexed and I haven't been able to pin-point why - it's not the file type (extension), size or name (e.g. special characters), or access rights (I set all my files to full r+w access).
I also set up a miniDLNA on my Raspberry Pi with DNS321 samba folder as the source - all files were picked up.
It's strange that the particular files are also not visible when I access the folders with midnight commander through ssh. In the shell, with ls command, they are visible.
Other than the funplug, I haven't tweaked my DNS321 in any way, it's a standard set-up.
Can somebody tell me what the root cause may be? Thanks in advance!

Hi Vedko,
This is clearly due to your Samsung TV.
Try and change the extension of the file, might do the trick.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. As I said, it's not the extension. I noticed that only some *.mkv files don't get indexed, but in fact the rest of the *.mkv files do.
After my first post, I haven't experienced this with any new *.mkv files (and almost forgot about the problem), but still I have 2-3 files, which are not on the list.
Plus, I have also a Popcorn Hour A110 media player, which is able to play the files from DLNA servers - and the particular files are not available from the DNS DLNA server either - so, I don't think the prob. is with the Samsung TV either.
The only options I was able to think of is that there must some kind of limitation of the file system the DNS is using (ext2 if I'm not wrong) that just doesn't like those files - but it's just a wild, not informed guess.
Anyway, as I said - it's not a "matter of life & death" issue, I have alternate way to play those movies.

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

Have you tried to restart minidlna ?
To force the rescan of your folder.

Which version of minidlna do you use ?

I believe the restart script already forces folder rescan. But the answer is yes, several times.
My version of the minidlna is 1.0.18 with Samsung patch - the latest version with the patch I was able to find.

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

I think the patch is included in the next releases, there is no need for patch anymore
Also check the rights of the files, they might differ and create this situation

I know I'm asking for a favour, but could you please me the link to the newest build of miniDLNA?
As for the access rights: all files and folders in my media directories have full read/write access, i.e. chmod -R 777 *
Thank you in advance!

Re: [HELP] Building miniDLNA for SAMSUNG TV with PC Share Manager features

Hi Vedko,

You can find several different builds on the different main repositories.
You can find those repositories on the fun plug page : http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp
I have been using 1.0.22 for a while now. Tried fresher builds like 1.1.0 and latest CVS from Kylek but not happy with them.
