Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

I can't get my NAS to re-format drives, either with individual or RAID 1. I attempted to re-set, but it does not appear to re-set. (How long do you have to hold in the reset button?) I have some other minor questions, but need to address this first.
rant:
Boy, has DLink t/s changed. They used to be very helpful, and I have been a customer for over 10 years. Today, they hung up on me twice without asking what my problem was. I guess everyone has forgotten what customer service means.

if by reset you mean h/w reset or restore to factory defaults you can either do it via the web interface (look under Tools -> System) or for the use of the pin hole button on the device, see the wiki page http://dns323.kood.org/howto:hardware_reset

Problem may have been with f/w 1.05. Over wrote with 1.04 and now works. Before I jump to conclusions, I did remove both drives from the DNS-323 and formatted them with my computer using Partition Magic just to see if they would format OK. They did. Then I deleted all partitions and put them back into the DNS-323 housing and booted up the system. In the meantime, I had already downloaded 1.04, and did not dare to upgrade yet. Format with RAID 1 successful using f/w 1.04.

It is not an issue with f/w 1.05 specifically. What I have found is that the hard drive's serial numbers are stored in flash. When the DNS thinks it knows a drive, it does not properly partition and format the drive. By switching back f/w, you erased the flash. (Config info is also stored each drive, too, and a repartiton in the DNS does not delete the data, but your format from the PC would have.) You should be able to upgrade back to 1.05 if you want. 1.04 and 1.05 use the same partition scheme, so the drive would not have to be reformatted.

Yes, I went back to the 1.05 f/w without any problems. I know some of the contributors know a lot more than I about the nuts and bolts of the DNS-323, but all I can say is that after deleting the partitions of my drives, I was able to re-format just like it was new out-of-the-box (I still use RAID).
Everything is working extremely well under 1.05. I use Network Magic and log onto the DNS-323 through it (NM) from time to time from other computers on my network just to make sure everything is going well.
Also, the Easy Search feature is great for a quick logon from my desktop if I don't care to use Network Magic.

Retread ! Thanks for the input!

I came across this problem, too, and found success, but it did involve rolling back or installing different firmware...
I posted my success story here: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic. … 203#p30203
