Hi Kylek,
I've only managed to get about 100kB/s downloading speed even with popular torrents of OpenOffice.org. I've already turn on encryption and blocklists.
How did you managed to get 600kB/s?

I am having trouble downloading v1.40 from Kyle's server location. Does anyone else have a public location for the file(s)?

My bad - new DSL router installed with over enthusiastic firewall. Once F/w crippled D/L worked ok.

Dear DNS-323 users!
I am use Transmission 1.3 and it is works (almost) outstanding.
So the download speed is OK the files are not courrupted after downloading, etc.
I have only one big problem. So sometimes the Transmission stop running without any reason ( in my opininon) The 323 still running the main config page and all the setting are available and fully functioning.
In this case I telnet the device and type:
/mnt/HD_a2 # /ffp/start/transmission.sh start
and the Transmission started successfuly.
But next, the torrent files says: Waiting for verify.
This is keep over hours and it is verfied the download procedure run smothly.
But this problem happens every days!!!
Please help to solve this problem.
Best regards:
Zoltan

Does your NAS suffer from power loss sometimes? Do you reboot it often?
Transmission must be shutdown properly, otherwise it will recheck all downloads everytime you restart it. For large torrents (or many torrents) this will take a long time.
If you use my package of Transmission, then it'll create a log file at /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon/transmission-daemon.log
If you find again that Transmission has stopped working (type '/ffp/start/transmission.sh status to make sure), check out the log file beforehand, maybe it contains something useful.
Last but not least: I suggest you upgrade to v1.40 which was released a couple of days ago. It fixes several crasher bugs, maybe the one you're encountering is one of them.

I have 1.34 successfully running after following this tutorial: http://www.horto.ca/?p=10
When I have more than two or three torrents running at once, my internet speed crawls to a halt on my other computers. This is especially true when connected to public trackers, where I'm often downloading from only 2 or 3 out 80k+ peers. When running Transmission on my pc, it never listed that many available peers. If I pause transmission, the speed issue is resolved.
I'm assuming that limiting the number of peer connections is the key, but haven't found a way to do that. Is my hunch right?
Any advice on how to address the problem?
Thanks very much.

Transmission 1.4 looks solid, definitely crashes a lot less now.
Thanks!

Thanks KyleK!
There is no power loss and I do not reboot the device only if necessary. (When transmission daemon stopepd)
But maybe the problem was:
In the main configuration panel there is a suspend time option when the NAS hibernate the HDD if they have no any tasks.
I disabled this and approx. 24 hours the transmission works correctly.
But there is an anoather problem.
I use the EasySearch application but sometimes it can't connect the volumes and ask me for usernam/password but I provide any user/pass I give "Failed to map the drive" message.
But the FTP works well so I don't know what eould be the problem.

I've just updated to 1.40, but I seem to have a problem selecting the upload speed. I want to max it to 200kb/s but when i select that option in the total upload menu I get max 0.1953125 kb/s upload. That's not what I wanted.
A known problem for transmission or specific to this DSN 323 version?
Offline
That is just a cosmetic issue: The Clutch preferences dialog displays the upload speed in MB/s instead of kB/s. Just enter the value you want (in kB/s), it'll be applied correctly.
If you don't want to wait for the next version, you can easily fix the display bug by yourself: Go to /ffp/share/transmission/web/javascript, open the file 'transmission.js' and change this:
var down_limit = prefs[RPC._DownSpeedLimit] / 1024; var up_limit = prefs[RPC._UpSpeedLimit] / 1024;
to this:
var down_limit = prefs[RPC._DownSpeedLimit]; var up_limit = prefs[RPC._UpSpeedLimit];
Save the file and reload the web interface, it should display the correct speed values in the preferences dialog.

How do I control the max number of connected peers through the web interface? I'm running Trans 1.4
Thanks.

A) Not a question for this forum ( go to www.transmissionbt.com) and
B) You can't.

What port does transmission use for bit torrent? I need to forward that port to the NAS.
Offline
Transmissions default port is 51413, but you can change that of course. (Type 'transmission-remote --help' for more information)

KyleK do you think this is the "No such file or directory" problem that I am running into?

Has anyone been able to connect to the web ui using an Iphone? I am able to connect over the internet to the web ui using a computer but when I try and connect with my iphone, it errors.

Looks like I hace corrected every problem with automatic. Torrents are forwarded to transmission, and i see them in the clutch web ui. The problem I am having is that after a torrent runs for a few seconds (i can see it connect to somepeers) it pauses the downloads and under each torrent it says "No such file or directory". I have attempted to run transmission in the foreground and i have read the log and I dont ever see a reference to that error.

Have you set a proper download directory in Transmisision? You can do that through the web interface preferences (bottom left).
You can also try the following: Stop Transmission, then set the environment variable "TR_DEBUG" to 1 (command: 'export TR_DEBUG=1'), then restart Transmission.
This will create an immense amount of log entries, so I suggest you start Transmission using /ffp/start/transmission.sh
It will create a log file at /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon/transmission-daemon.log
As soon as you see the error in the web interface, stop Transmission again and go through the logfile. Maybe you can find the reason for the error.
On a side note: I've always had problems running Transmission as user 'nobody'. I now run it as one of the users I added to my NAS. This works very well.
Please note that the config folder and the download folder always have to be owned by the user that Transmission is running as.

I have uninstalled 1.4 and installed 1.33 and then removed that and put 1.4 back. Also it is running as root. But now downloads are working, but they are all going to the "/" directory.
When i go to the preference in clutch it says
/mnt/HD_a2/Media/Downloads
which is where i want them to go. They never show up there though. Any suggestions?
Offline
when i vi settings.json it says "download-dir": "\/mnt\/HD_a2\/Media\/Downloads",
looks weird to be but its probably right.

Got it!!! I had to remove all the old torrents and re download them. It was keeping their original path in memory somewhere.
Is there a setting to limit how many active torrents there are? So if i have 10 torrents only 2 will download, then when 1 finishes it will start a new torrent?

Hi guys,
I noticed that in the new 1.4 version, my memory and CPU usage shoots up to 100% (and over 100% for the memory even) after running for half a day. At one time, I usually only have 5-8 torrents running (about 2-3 of them seeding). I do use encryption thou... Anyone with the same behaviour?
