Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

run ffp from USB flash drive

Hi,
I know this topic where discuss fairly extended in several posts however I still do not get the right procedure to follow to complete this task. Currently my fun_plug and ffp are in the HD (mnt/HD_a2).

I believe there is still no wiki for this as well so it is hard for newbie like me to start.

I know the added advantage by using this which is to reduce the spinning of the HD.

Can any one guide my how and where to start to do this? So far I try method outlined from this blog http://bfg100k.blogspot.com/2008/11/upg … o-usb.html

But I discovered using this method my ffp.log in the .bootstrap folder is just too large 671MB!!! I can't even open it to read the log.
Is there any other better way? Or is there any wiki that I missed about this?

Huh? 671MB?  I am just off out now do don't have time to offer much help, but something strange going on there!  Can you telnet to the box and tail ffp.log and see what is in it?  You may have to use a switch/parameter to get it to display enough of the log as I think it defaults to the last 10 lines.  But there are several ways to get ffp running off a usb stick.  First question is whether you have ffp up and running off the hdd?  There are I think 3 different links on the ffp page on the 'wiki:how to ffp' to do what you want.  You will find lots of posts on this forum on how to do it also, however, most of them were pre .bootstrap - this is a recent addition to the ffp fun_plug file.  You don't need to use the .bootstrap suggestion, but it will make it easier to upgrade ffp (I assume) and I believe that you can use it to install ffp directly on the usb stick (but I haven't tried that).

You can try looking at the threads at the end of this post:

http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1531

But I'm pretty sure your problem is that you're using the "debug" version of usb-storage.ko which dumps lots of extra verbage into the logs.  Instead, the one you want can be read about here: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3163 (basically, download from http://www.domaigne.com/download/dns-323/).

I think you're right, I will try that.
