Running it with a Western Digital 1TB Green Power drive. Works like a charm. Transfer speeds seem average for this type of disk - seems pretty much as slow/fast as my WD MyBook World. The specification for the disc is as follows; WD10EACS. Firmware I'm running is 1.02 (box came with it - no upgrades needed to support the drive - which is good, as it seems none are available.)

After loosing one day and half....
The Maxtor DiamondMax +9 120GB (SATA1) is not compatible.
I put a (already listed) 250GB Hitachi hard drive and everything works fine now.

2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5 TB works fine with newest FW 1.06
Dell has had monthly coupon codes for first 5000 orders for $99. These dont have the problematic FW as I expected to why they were selling them off. Only problem is you can only order 1 per address, so requires some preplanning. If your a new customer you will get a 10% off code that can be combined when you get the second drive, so you end up paying $205 for both drives and free shipping.
I used Ext2IFS to copy over one of my 320gb drives to my new mirrored set.

Does Western Digital WD1002FBYS work on DNS-313? I found DNS-313 Hard Disk Compatibility list http://global.dlink.com.sg/site_support … 080104.pdf BUT the cover box says up to 1,000GB? can anyone confirm that Western Digital Drives work with DNS-313 (especially with WD1002FBYS model) thanks.

Hi All, anyone know if the WD 1.0 TB WD10EADS green drive is compatible with the DNS-313 ? the documentation says the WD10EACS is, but there is no mention of the WD10EADS. Thanks heaps.

I'm using the WD10EADS hard drive, and it seems to be compatible: not any problem during formatting, and idle spin down is working.

If you get a DNS-313 of type rev H/W:B1; F/W:2.00, do not get a WD green drive.

On the outside of the box, there is a sticky label with the model no, serial no, mac id and the H/W ver and F/W ver.

Got to the bottom of my issue above. After many many emails and tests Dlink tell me "it appears that there was a hardware change in Rev B which may be causing your incompatibility issue.".
So to cut a long story short, if you get a DNS-313 of type rev H/W:B1; F/W:2.00, do not get a WD green drive. I tried this HDD in 3 different DNS-313 and all powered off during the format process. I went and got a Seagate and all is good. My friends and i brought 5 DNS-313 between us 6 months ago and only I used a WD green drive, they all went with Seagate. I should have too.
Same thing happened to me:
Since I exhausted all free space on my drive mentioned couple posts above, I decided to buy bigger one. First I wanted to buy WD Caviar Blue 1TB/32MB (WD10EALS), but when I got money, my company didn't have any on the stock. Instead, I bought WD Caviar Green 1.5TB/64MB (WD15EARS). And my hell started to show up
Back then I had DNS-313 HW:A2/FW:1.4. It didn't work. I tried several firmwares and It didn't work. Then I decided to exchange this one through guarantee program and to get newer version of the unit: HW:B1/FW:2.0... It didn't work too. The problem is like you described - the unit is turning off in format mode. I tried setting SSC (Spread Spectrum Clocking), OPT1 (SATA-1 mode) and ADF (ADvanced Format) jumpers on the drive, but it didn't help at all.
So I can confirm that this disk WD Caviar Green 1.5TB/64MB (WD15EARS) does not work on DNS-313 HW:A2/FW:1.x or HW:B1/FW:2.0!

Hi... This situation must have changed, because I recieved this particular hard drive (WD15EARS) with my DNS-313 (HW B1, FW2.0), and I got it working with very little trouble.

Zden, how did you manage that? Please, can you tell us, so others can know the solution.
Thank you!

Well maybe it's just a matter of HDD firmware revision, I didn't really pay attention to this.
But at first, my first attempt failed. The formatting as a NAS went on, but stalled a roughly 55-60%. So I tried a different approach. I tried formatting it inside the DNS-313, but using it as a mere USB External drive, and the formatting went without a hitch (using Windows 7).
Then I tried again to initialize it as a NAS, and everything went fine. Now it's up and running fine.

Ok. I'll try your approach and I'll post the results here.
Thank you again for helping us.
